The hiliting in showcv2 is neat. It and later when I was comparing files...
I got me to thinking:

Cmpbuffers hilites lines / blocks of lines that are different.
But often most of those lines are the same and it is difficult to spot
the actual differences. If the parts of different lines that are
actually different were hilited in another contrasting color within
the hilited line would be really neat...

Example- comparing the foloowing two lines:
This is a line of a file to be compared to a similar line in another file.
This is a line of a file being compared to a similar line in another file.

With the change I imagine, these two bit:
to be
being
would be in a contrasting color from the rest of the lines.

-- UI --
Obviously what a tool does and how well it does it does it is a big
factor in how much it gets used. But I contend that an even bigger
factor in how much it gets used is it's user interface ("ui").

I have both cmpbuffers and cmpfiles in my Potpourri. Tho cmpbuffers
has some advantages, I often use cmpfiles simply because I find it's
offer to compare the buffers in the 2 current windows so handy.

Cmpbuffers does offer to:
> Compare the current buffer to another buffer ...
followed by a picklist of other currently open files typically with
some other file hilited in the picklist.

One can pick the file that is in the second window but it is just not
as handy (to me, IMHO) as the cmpfiles ui. If cmpbuffers' file
hilited in the picklist were the file in the second window, it would be
getting close in ui convenience.

TSE CmpFiles and TSE CmpBuffers are indeed missing this hightlight of different words feature.

As a workaround:

On the other hand alternative 3rd party solutions like BeyondCompare and so on almost
all show that word distinction behavior.

My solution is running a Larry Hayes inspired 2 block selection TSE macro which then
compares those blocks in BeyondCompare, and optionally TSE CmpFiles and a number of different comparison programs.

Hi Fred,

Good to have feedback on the cmpbuffers tool from TSE's Potpourri menu.
Both your points make sense to me, and I added them to its wish list.

I reinterpreted your 2nd point as:
Add a menu option to compare the two different buffers in the two open windows.
The menu option will be gray and not selectable :-) if its requirements do not apply.

Carlo
