A program written with a scripting language calls other software to
perform some function. The result is typically to automate an
otherwise manual process.

I can think of several more specific reasons why in general
one might wont to use TSE as scrpting language. I do not know about
the specific eigenvalues / powershell use.

A TSE macro might...

Allow a better user interface.
Process inputs to software before calls.
Process outputs from called software.
Call several pieces of software with the result of one used by another


I used TSE to call software to record streaming news AND play it back
later with a user interface that allowed easily pausing, skipping forward
and back. I used TSE because I'm familiar with it and it suits me.
There may be other ways that work better. My system also used shell
scripts for scheduling and other functions.

Also here, write your TSE floating point calculator including scientific libraries (which also has to be very accurate). 

Then come back.

In 1985 - or about 40 years such a pure TSE program thing (fully developed) has not been created (and of course not using extra to install and extra to be downloaded from somewhere external programs like .exe or DLLs) and then letting it run on and Linux + Microsoft Windows.

Talk to one later (read: very probably never) about when one has created such a TSE program.

And the list goes on and on...
