Hello, I just downloaded release candidate 24 for Windows. This is a bug report and some personal suggestions.
1. Rename the installation executable from "tse.exe" to "tse_install.exe" or "setup_tse.exe" so it is clear to anyone viewing the filename that this is an installation program, not a standalone editor.
2. The first customization option reads:
"Customize the Console editor (e32.exe) now or accept the default settings?"
It is very possible or even likely that the user has an earlier edition of TSE installed in a different directory. Could you offer the option to import the config settings of an existing TSE installation? This would remove manually re-entering this info again. Suggested:
"For the Console editor (e32.exe), import settings from an existing directory, customize the settings, or accept default settings?"
You could offer a similar import option for the GUI editor as well.
3. When the choice to choose color schemes appears, the choice cannot occur because the file "colors.mac" does not exist yet.
Trying to choose color schemes results in this error:
The file "colors.mac" will be created AFTER the setup is chosen, so it's not here now.
4. Recommendation: In the "doc" directory, there are 4 files with the extension *.doc. I know that this is years old, but since that file extension has been claimed by Microsoft Word, wouldn't it be better to change the extension to *.txt? And along the way, maybe get rid of the IBM graphics line-drawing characters that are not used in a meaningful way?
Finally, thanks for the acknowledgement in the "
read.me" file. I don't deserve any credit, since I contribute so little. But my last name is spelled "Pement".
Thanks a whole lot for your effort, Sammy. I appreciate it and am glad to use TSE and recommend it to others!!
