From TSE v4.50 upwards ViewFinds adds text- and comment-colors to a list with "View Finds" in its title, showing us at a glance
which found strings are (not) in comments.

From the not yet released TSE v4.50.25 upwards it will add full syntax highlighting.

Big thanks to Sammy for adding a syntax highlighting function to TSE v4.50.25's macro language.

Tiny acknowledgement to Eckhard Hillmann, whose method I copied for syntax highlighting configuration menu options.

I tried the ViewFinds extension and am not getting the results I expect.
I am unsure if it is a problem of faulty expectations of dumb user error.

Here is what I did using Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS
I uncompressed /home/fholson/bin/tseA7/tse-linux-4.50.26.tgz to:

/home/fholson/bin/tseA7/tse

I added /home/fholson/bin/tseA7/tse/mac/ViewFinds.s ,
opened and compiled it. I put ViewFinds in the Macro AutoLoad List.

BTW I assume it is a typo in ViewFinds.s :

>Add the extension's name "VieFinds" to TSE's Macro AutoLoad List menu,
>and restart TSE.

(no "w" in "VieFinds" )

I closed and reopened this TSE with
e ~/bin/tseA7/tse/doc/hooks.txt
and searched in hooks.txt for "user" with options "igv" and get
7 hits but "user" is not hilited. See attached screenshot.

Note that if I execute Viewfinds ( >Macro >Execute ) I get a small
window with:

Current line background color [-1: Default: Same as edit window. ]
Trailing spaces color [Menu color]

With ViewFinds in the Macro AutoLoad List at the startup of TSE
I do not get this window.

I hit escape to exit the window and accept the defaults. I redid
the search and got the same result.

What's wrong?

Fred

@All,
It has been reported that ViewFinds does not work with the grep macro's "View Finds" list.
I am adding this.

@Fred,
Thanks for reporting the typo.

Default TSE has no syntax hiliting for .txt files.
Privately send me your text(?).syn file if you want me to investigate the problem.

Do you have the same problem for .s files?
For example, open ViewFinds.s and search for "ee" with options "giv".
You should see the macro language's syntax highlighted in the search results.

Yes, this is ViewFinds' configuration menu.
It is documented in the macro's source's "INSTALLATION" section.
Logically and luckily you do not get this configuration menu when (auto)loading ViewFinds.
I will have a look whether the menu itself needs clarification.
I do think the menu's documentation can be extended.
