HCARE 2026 - 1st International Workshop on Human-Centered AI for Requirements Engineering

Co-located with IEEE RE 2026 -- 34th International Requirements Engineering Conference
August 17–21, 2026 @ École Technologie supérieure (ÉTS), Montréal, Canada

WHY HCARE?

AI is reshaping how requirements are elicited, analyzed, and evolved. Yet behind every AI-assisted decision, a human still bears responsibility. HCARE 2026 asks the question that the RE community cannot afford to ignore:

How do we keep humans in control as AI takes on more of the RE process?

This first-edition workshop brings together researchers, practitioners, and educators to explore the human side of AI-augmented RE, from trust and oversight to workforce transformation and ethical accountability. We believe RE is the right place to address these challenges, before systems are built, not after.

TOPICS OF INTEREST

We welcome contributions addressing (but not limited to):

  > Human-AI collaboration and task delegation in RE workflows
  > Trust, oversight, and human control over AI-generated artifacts
  > Explainability, usability, and cognitive load in AI-assisted RE tools
  > Ethical and responsible AI in requirements prioritization and analysis
  > Stakeholder acceptance and participation in AI-augmented RE
  > Skills evolution and workforce transformation in RE teams
  > Education, curriculum design, and training for AI-aware RE practice
  > Organizational change management for AI adoption in RE
  > Empirical studies on human factors in AI-supported RE
  > Industrial experience reports on AI-RE adoption
  > Vision papers on the future of RE in the AI era
