Greetings to all,

Thanks for tuning in for another set of images.
Last week's images received less than an enthusiastic response. It was
sort of expected. It saddens me to a degree, because I had such
feelings for the images, and I still do... but apparently the general
public as represented by this list do not have the same feelings. It's
ok, because I know I am twisted to a degree, but I will say that there
are photographers out there with lesser work who are represented in
museums world wide. C'est la vie. Onwards.

I had a job to shoot a vineyard in the southern San Luis Obispo County
area about two weeks ago. I had a blast. Provided with a four wheel
drive mini truck, I scrambled around a scenic area shooting a number of
images of grapes, vines, etc. The site was off of HWY 33, near the
intersection of HWY 166. Middle of nowhere, and beautiful.

Near the hills, after a long rainy season there was evidence of the
bountiful moisture which had since disappeared. Water leaves wonderful
effects. The Grand Canyon, the Sahara Desert, the ocean's shoreline.
The cracks of leached water along the hills:

Last week, I bought a bike. I had been planning on it for awhile, and I
finally went through with it. The last time I had rode a bike was five
years ago. I felt like a kid again. I zipped around, breathless,
enjoying each pedal pump and wind whipping through my hair.

I was off from the castle for four days. I did not drive my car for
four days. My contribution to energy conservation.

I bought a mountain bike with knobby tires. I rode to the end of
Monterey St to the Motel Inn. The first Motel in the world... THE
FIRST. Decrepit and neglected. Falling down. Chain link fence wraps
it's perimeter. Sad. What kind of community which espouses it's history
neglects it's firsts? Hypocrisy in action. Pitiful. I got to the
location at a perfect time, the sun was illuminating the top of it's
mission style tower. Snap snap snap. The compact flash card filled up.
There was a sign, outside the building, that said 'Sorry Welcome'. The
intention was originally different, but now it was being literal. Do
you know of a time when a happy person is said to have character?
Usually it is applied to a melancholy person... or building. Why is
that? I got two flat tires on my bike from some nasty thorns in the
road. Ack! I pushed the bike home.

The first Motel in the world... not a landmark to be cherished, rather
a neglected, forgotten structure.

13x20 prints of these images are available. $195.00 apiece, $100.00
will be donated directly to the Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina
Support. I will provide receipts for the donation to the Red Cross,
from the Red Cross if you like.

Take care, and try not to drive too much... the time is coming for
conservation, the price of gas is not going to go down.
