I have been browsing through the thousands of images I have taken in
the last year plus, looking around for exceptional shots that would
like to be shown to all of you, partially in anticipation to a three
week vacation I am taking next month - a road trip up to my parent's
new home in north eastern Washington. The biggest concern about the
trip is gas money... tis going to cost a good nickel to drive the whole
distance there and back, but the lack of ability to stop and look and
shoot using public transport via bus or train just outweighs the cost
of gas. Hopefully I will come back with some gallery worthy images from
the 3000 mile trip... If you happen to know of some offbase locations
from here in SLO to the tip of Washington, I will be taking the 5 to
Albany, Oregon to see a friend on the way up, then the 5 or is it the
101 to the Portland area to see some more friends, then along the
Columbia river to the 395 to the upper part of Washington State... let
me know.
A little over a year ago, I went to visit a friend up in Tahoe and shot
images the whole way there and back. I only have shown two images of
that trip, out of a few hundred or so... there was one circumstance
where I was driving up the 395 on the eastern side of Sierras, which I
described in the image of the week last June... where I saw a sign for
Convict lake. I continued driving up the road for a bit, but a nagging
though stuck in my head that made me turn around and go back. I was
glad that I did. Fantastic location, decent light, I was awestruck. I
took a bunch of shots and continued on my way. There was a set of shots
that I took that will eventually see the light of day rather than that
of just my monitor, but this below is not that set. Later, when the
Olympics came on TV, I saw Convict Lake again and again in a car
commercial, for the Pontiac G6. I remember thinking "Wow, if I had not
stopped at the lake, I would have thought the commercial was filmed in
some exotic location in South America".
Mt. Laurel is the colorful peak on the right.
Convict Lake, with no justice done by seeing the image on the
internet... you should go see it yourself :) Or buy a print :)
