This program brings together diverse public, private, and academic partners into collaborative consortia focused on driving inclusive regional growth. With their existing innovation assets as a foundation, these Tech Hubs will build the workforce of the future; enable businesses to start and scale; and deploy and deliver critical and emerging technologies.
A Strategy Development Grant (SDG) enables consortia to increase local coordination and planning activities to further develop their technology-based regional economic development strategy. Eleven of the 31 Designated Tech Hubs received SDGs, and 18 other consortia received SDGs to further mature their plans and achieve Designation in the future.

Meta and BSR hosted the second Tech Against Trafficking (TAT) Summit. Bringing together over 140 global anti-trafficking leaders, the summit focused specifically on the nexus between technology, forced labor and labor trafficking.
The 31 Tech Hubs focus on developing and growing innovative industries in regions across the country, including semiconductors, clean energy, critical minerals, biotechnology, precision medicine, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and more. Tech Hubs bring together private industry, state and local governments, institutions of higher education, labor unions, Tribal communities and nonprofit organizations to compete for up to $75 million implementation grants to further develop these fields and make transformative investments in innovation, supply chain resilience, and job creation.
For too long, economic growth and opportunity has clustered in a few cities on the coasts. Tech Hubs awardees were selected to represent the full diversity of America, selected from more than 370 applications spanning 49 states and four territories. The Tech Hubs will bring the benefits and opportunities of scientific and technological innovation to communities across the country, with nearly three-quarters significantly benefitting small and rural areas and more than three-quarters directly supporting historically underserved communities. The Tech Hubs all include workforce organizations such as labor unions, helping create good-paying, union jobs in the communities where workers live. And, in addition to the 31 Tech Hubs, the Department of Commerce is awarding 18 coalitions Strategy Development Grants to build economic development plans to compete for future rounds of the Tech Hub program.
Supporting Tech Hubs Through an All-of-Government Strategy
To ensure these Tech Hubs have the tools they need to compete on a global scale, the Administration is bringing the full resources of the federal government to identify and provide funding, technical assistance, and planning for the 31 coalitions, including:
The RADx Tech/ATP programs are components of the overarching RADx Initiative at NIH to speed innovation in the development, commercialization, and implementation of technologies for COVID-19 testing. The RADx Tech/ATP innovation funnel was designed to compress the customary technology development timeline from years down to just months. This was accomplished by employing, in parallel, expert teams to address technical, regulatory, clinical, and commercialization requirements. Launched on April 29, 2020, the RADx programs were able to validate, de-risk, scale up, manufacture, and deploy novel tests through a seamless pipeline by fall 2020.
The mission of the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) is to transform, through technology development, our understanding of disease and its prevention, detection, diagnosis, and treatment.
FIRST Tech Challenge students learn to think like engineers. Teams design, build, and code robots to compete in an alliance format against other teams. Robots are built from a reusable platform, powered by Android technology, and can be coded using a variety of levels of Java-based programming.
The really cool thing about FIRST Tech Challenge is...all skill levels are welcomed and needed, technical or non-technical. Student and adult team members are encouraged to bring any skills they already have, like coding, electronics, metalworking, graphic design, web creation, public speaking, videography, and more. Adult coaches guide students as they gain skills and confidence in a supportive, inclusive environment.
Individual Team: Guide a team of up to 15 students as they work together to design, build, and program a robot by exploring advanced engineering concepts, brainstorming innovative ideas, and developing career-ready practices. Participants have access to over $80 million in scholarships to colleges, universities, and technical programs.

Class Pack: A larger, flexible curricular option for up to 24 students in the classroom or after-school programming. Students will create a robot and utilize tools for self-growth in technical skill development and engineering design. Each semester of the course culminates in an event where students present what they've learned and use their robot to compete in a class mini-game.
