Our work to fight corruption is gaining quick momentum. In just two years, The Center to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4) has managed to establish an important presence on the work of good governance and combatting corruption. 

Yes, we are very excited! We are now ready to establish a focal point in Penang, a C4 unit so to speak, to better monitor the state governments administration of public funds, to track public policies and enhance public participation in shaping government decisions. 

The focal point here will be set up to track states in the North, mainly in Kelantan, Kedah and Penang. 

It is indeed a big milestone in our work, to promote accountability at all levels of government, a tall order that can only be realised with solid collaboration and support, friendship and discourse with civil society to ensure joint goals of competency, accountability and transparency, that must remain a driving force at the centre of governance. 

To kick start this effort, a team of journalists and volunteers had worked with C4 for several months now, on a mission to Kelantan to fact find, and they have produced an in-depth report, on the pressing issue of governance in the timber trade. 

Always controversial, yet a guarantee for quick revenue, the timber industry has long been a bane for many environmental groups, with the felling of trees for cash, always made complicated with the onslaught of timber merchants. 

The massive floods that washed away almost all of Kelantan at the end of 2014, found us looking for answers and ways to ensure that we could provide recommendations for better forest governance, for long term sustainability and to look at alternatives to boost state government coffers.

The report is ready! With the views of many stakeholders captured in it, the report is an interesting contribution to the discourse of good forest governance. We will launch it at this event, to showcase the important need for investigative, evidence based research in promoting improved policies at all levels of administration. 

What is a launch if it’s all heavy on substance and serious discussions? 

We have put together an interesting programme, with some fun and great entertainment for all. Francesca Peters, our superstar songstress, will make a special appearance at the launch. Surely this is something not to be missed! 

Ourone and only, famous political cartoonist Zunar will do a live performance as well. A promise of laughs and lots of fun during these two-hour programme.

It will be held at Jen Hotel, Jalan Magazine, 10300 GeorgeTown, from 530-8pm.

Registration starts from 5.30 – 6.00pm, with refreshments followed by the launch of the report and the C4 unit.
