The next meeting of Austin SIGKDD, Big Data Machine Learning Hackers Dojo, is Wednesday, April 11, 2012, 7:00 - 8:00 pm at Northwest Recreation Center. We have the meeting room from 6:30-9.

Currently, I am focused on implementing support vector machines in Hadoop to compete in KDDCUP 2012. Tonight, I will be reviewing the slides on support vector machines by Nello Christianini. A link to the slides in posted on the web site under Links >  Papers > Support Vector Machines

Topics in April

April 11 - Support Vector Machines
April 18 - Support Vector Machines
April 25 - Support Vector Machines

On May 16, 2012, Jason Baldridge, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Department of Linguistics, University of Texas, will make a presentation to Austin ACM SIGKDD

Core NAP, a local cloud service provider, has donated four VMs in their cloud for our chapter to use in the KDDCUP competition. I am looking for a volunteer to assist in setting up a Hadoop cluster.

Please bring you laptop, a power cord, and a power strip. Northwest Recreation Center has plenty of power cords but we need additional power strips. Really, someone bring a power strip. No one has brought a power strip since we started these meetings#@!

Please join Austin SIGKDD to continue receiving announcements.

I’m just a lurker and also know about the KDDCUP rules but if turnaround time is a metric and number of machines is not limited, I have an idea.

Now that you have 4 VMs from CoreNap could you get the other ISPs each to pony up a few machines to add to the cloud?  While you’re at it, how about IBM or Dell or UT?
