Profile/Avatar like images in the docs

I was just curious, what tool/service do you guys use for generating the avatars shown everywhere in the docs? Such as this: http://semantic-ui.com/images/avatar/large/elliot.jpg

those most be done manually using a vector image editor  like Illustrator  or Inkscape.
