Given the recent topic of modeling archival description in RDF, is
anyone from the list going to be attending either the Dublin Core
conference in Pittsburgh (October 20-22) or the DLF conference in Palo
Alto (November 1-3)? Some folks, including myself, who've been working
on this will be at these conferences. If there's time and interest, it
might make sense to at least have an informal get together.

I'm not attending DC-2010 in person, but if there was some way of
participating remotely, then (time zones permitting!) I'd be
interested, though I'm already committed to a session on the afternoon
(US)/evening (UK) of Friday 22 October.

Or alternatively (and maybe rather easier from a logistical
perspective!) I might be able to submit a short slideshow with some
pre-recorded commentary, if that was of any use.

I've been only lurking on this list for a while :) but wanted to chime
in. I can't make DC or DLF this year but would be very interested in
a virtual meetup or an information exchange later on. We're just
beginning to explore RDF, both to report out and augment our finding
aid data, so hearing your ideas (and hopefully contributing some)
would be great. Mark, thanks for throwing this out there.

Thanks,
Joanna

Sorry to be late in responding to this... I won't be at either of these, but am in SF and would love to help get together at a bar and get some folks out from the Internet Archive, Freebase/Google, and other local institutions who would be into this.  Let me know if that's of interest or if it fits into your schedule.

In other news, I'm working with the Internet Archive to put together a small Linked Open Data in Libraries, Archives, and Museums Summit here in the spring.  Please let me know if anyone would be interested in that.  It's dependent on funding, but the main purpose is to strategize around moving the technology, legal, and education issues forward to enable wider adoption of LOD in the humanities.

Thanks, Jon

Make sure you cross-post to the W3C LLD public list when you have an announcement about the summit! I'm in Ireland so unlikely to attend, but it sounds like an exciting move, Jon!

Jon,

Any chance the summit could be around the time of Museums and the Web (6-9 April). Of course I'd love to be there and there's a slim chance I might be able to get to MW2011, so if it was possible to combine the two I (and I'm sure others from Australia & NZ) would be very happy.

Cheers, Tim

Jodi--thanks for that recommendation, will do!
Tim--we're looking at May 19-20 in SF, and unfortunately we can't do it too much earlier because it's dependent on grant money.  But there's no reason why we couldn't do official or non-official panels/meetups/discussions about Linked Data there and at all of these conferences.

Speaking of, want to go in on a panel or something for MW2011?  I was thinking of doing a demonstration on Civil War Data 150, but it would be great to get together a bunch of us to spend a little time talking generally, but then show some use cases.  Of course, proposals are due next week...

Thanks, Jon
