SGLC is a recent set of extensions to LOLC, a text-based environment for collaborative improvisation for laptop ensembles. SGLC integrates acoustic musicians into the LOLC environment: Laptop musicians author short commands to generate real-time notation, and acoustic musicians sight-read it in performance. We describe the background and motivations of the project, outline the design of LOLC and SGLC, explain the use of SGLC in a musical composition by one of the authors, and evaluate the impact of real-time notation on a concert performance with the environment.

Another challenge the LOLC team faced was setting up new branches for their numerous business units, which translated to significant infrastructure costs and time and resource-intensive efforts. Filtering traffic based on applications was also cumbersome as the operational team needed to move IP tunnels in the data center.
Previously, every time a business unit wanted to set up a physical branch, the company incurred substantial expenses arising from rental and infrastructure costs to even productivity losses while waiting for services to be fully functional. With Prisma Access, LOLC had realized cost savings of 30 percent during the setting up of a new branch.
With Prisma Access, LOLC can connect users from any network, anytime, and from anywhere, increasing user flexibility. The company has also benefited from a consistent user experience regardless of location.
DataToMusic (DTM) API is a JavaScript library for developing data-agnostic sonification programs, and also a real-time environment for experimenting with musical structure models. It enables musicians and researchers to rapidly map data onto musical structures, to explore the boundaries between sonification and musification, and to live code with data.
In Flock, a full-evening performance work commissioned by the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami, music notation, electronic sound, and video animation are all generated in real time based on the locations of musicians, dancers, and audience members as they move and interact with each other.
In LOLC, the musicians in the laptop orchestra use a live-coding language, developed specifically for this piece, to create and share rhythmic motives based on a collection of recorded sounds. The language encourages musicians to share their code with each other, developing an improvisational conversation over time as material is looped, borrowed, and transformed. LOLC is supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation as part of a larger research project on musical improvisation in performance and education.
The goal of the Georgia Tech Accessible Aquarium Project is to make dynamic exhibits such as those at museums, science centers, zoos and aquaria more engaging and accessible for visitors with vision impairments by providing real-time interpretations of the exhibits using innovative tracking, music, narrations, and adaptive sonification. It is an interdisciplinary collaboration between Georgia Tech researchers Bruce Walker, Tucker Balch, Gil Weinberg, Carrie Bruce, Jon Sanford, and Aaron Bobick, bringing together the fields of psychology, computing, music, and assistive technology. In this project, we are developing cutting edge bio-tracking and behavior analysis techniques that can provide input for sophisticated, informative, and compelling multimedia auditory displays, music, and sonification. As part of the project, we study how musicians (such as Laurie Anderson) interpret dynamic displays such as fish aquaria and develop an algorithm to use tracking information to generate a musical response that represents the movements of fish in the aquarium. The principles and techniques we develop will be immediately applicable to zoos, museums, and other informal learning environments with dynamic exhibits, leading to a dramatic increase in the opportunities for people with vision impairments to experience these types of exhibits.

Thanks to elections, rural debt problem has reappeared as a prominent issue in the public domain. While some candidates have vouched to cancel the rural debt, others have pledged to find solutions to rural indebtedness and agrarian crisis. Such accentuated attention from the people who seek power to assume the highest political office is a good development though should be read with care. Recognising the problem is the first step to address it. While the bulk of the problem remains to be solved, solutions could learn from measures already taken. This article makes an attempt to understand the problem of indebtedness both at the rural and urban setting. I argue that over-indebtedness is a direct outcome of the unchecked government policy of rapid financialization over 15 years. The impact of debt waiver introduced in 2018 in easing the debt burden from households is problematic. Debt cancellation is useless in an environment where people lack the means to fulfil basic needs. Precarious lives of rural and urban poor should not be tools to be manipulated for political gain. Policymakers should face real socio-economic questions on reviving productive capacities of the economy to generate decent jobs and provide living wages, land, housing and public things.
As I mentioned above, it was only implemented in 12 drought-affected districts. Only those who had defaulted three times could enjoy the benefit of Rs. 100, 000/= of their debt being waived off. Other women who defaulted more than three times or managed to meet weekly payments with enormous difficulties were not entitled. Also, indebted women of the other 13 districts were excluded from it. According to the Household Income and Expenditure Survey 2016 districts such as Kalutara, Matara, Galle, Hambanthota, Nuwara-Eliya, Matale and Kandy also record a very high prevalence of debt related to finance companies. In addition, these places also indicate a significant dependence on the informal sector by borrowing from money lenders and retail outlets.
