TRANSFER ANY BUSINESS TO THE WEB TODAY
A friend of mine did a very major deal the other day (they don’t even
have a website) they simply used a page on somebody else’s site and
got an enquiry that landed them a business deal worth tens of
thousands of dollars. I kid you not.
Examining the particular page they used, you probably wouldn’t believe
me. The page gets traffic of only about 20 people a day and about 140
to 150 every week. No big deal.
By the way I can hear you asking how they have such accurate figures.
Well there is this wonderful tool at
www.statcounter.com. Just go
there NOW and register, follow the simple instructions and you will be
able to keep very accurate tabs on who visits your site and from
where. What I like about this FREE tool is that you can analyze the
stats in 5 mins. The other tools I know will take you most of the day
to see what is happening on your site or page.
Anyway back to my story. 20 people a day looks few. But there is a
huge difference.
Let me try and explain it in simple language. If you placed an ad in
the Daily Nation in Kenya and got 20 phone calls asking about your
product, that would NOT be the same thing as 20 targeted visitors
coming to your site from a search engine. The closest equivalent I can
think of is 20 people walking into your shop (BUT NOT to browse around
out of curiosity) with ready cash in their pockets desperately looking
to buy exactly what you are selling.
Targeted traffic to your site from search engines is VERY VERY
valuable.
Maybe you still don’t get it, so lets imagine something shall we?
You have done this proposal in your office that has a deadline and it
is for a business deal that you are very optimistic of winning. You
have finished doing everything and are about to print out your pages
when you realize that your computer printer has run out of ink. Your
son was there the day before and printed reams of school stuff. You
might just rush to Google and type in the ink cartridge you want (to
save time running around looking for it). If you did this, the first
site you came to that was nearest to where you were you would probably
end up buying from.
Remember that people who find sites and pages through search engines
are serious buyers who want to buy right away. So if you consider
this, then 20 unique visitors a day is very good traffic for your
business, especially if you are selling a high ticket item like my
friend.
(I will continue with this subject in my next edition. Don’t miss it.)
P.S. Well over 80% of the traffic that successful websites get online
come in from search engines, with Google taking the lion’s share… by
far.
