Hi Asaad,
Thank you - same to you!
I am so excited that you are planning to work on your reading skills
over the break. I think that is fantastic.
First, I posted a Book Review Template to the SALC website on the
Resources page.
https://sites.google.com/site/elidesalc/resources
You can find it as the third listed attachment. It is pretty simple,
but will give you somewhere to start.
A book "review" is less about telling what happened in the book, and
more about telling your opinions and ideas about the book. You want to
be sure that your point of view is clear - would you recommend this
book to others, or not? Why? What specific parts did you enjoy? What
did you find challenging?
A couple of other pointers - keep your audience in mind. Chances are,
your review will be read by other students at the ELI. Give them your
personal perspective on the book and help them to understand why this
book is worth their time (or, if you didn't like the book, why they
might enjoy a different one instead).
I hope this helps. I will be available online until Tuesday if you
have any questions - then I really am going on vacation! :)
Also, keep in mind that we will have book club again next session, so
I hope you join. We also plan to have a reading challenge. The student
who reads the most books over the session will be eligible to win a
really cool prize!
