JavaScript Testing via Selenium

Hi,

I am new in Selenium and I would like to know, if it is possible to check JS events via Selenium. I would like to verify if the google tag manager works correctly - there is some data which must be validated (gtm datalayer2) --> https://developers.google.com/tag-manager/android/v3/reference/com/google/tagmanager/DataLayer.

I think, it is not possible with Selenium and I have to use a tool like phantomjs. 

I am looking forward to any answers.
