Selenium Webdriver slower than selenium RC

Hi,

I recently finished upgrading a large body of tests from selenium rc to selenium webdriver, and I noticed that the tests are running slower now.  The tests are written in python and use firefox as the browser.  The tests that seem to have taken the biggest performance hit are the ones that primarily find elements by name or by link text.

I was wondering if anyone had a similar experience or might know were I could look to improve the test performance.  I know this is a little scant on information, but I'm not really sure what's relevant.  If omitted anything important please let me know and I'll provide the information.
