Upgrading Selenium 1 to Webdriver Python

Hi all,

I’m trying to upgrade my Python Selenium 1 testing environment to use Selenium Webdriver.  To maintain the tests written for Selenium 1, will I still need to keep selenium server around?  I’ve done a lot of googling and most of the results are for Java. For Java, it does seem to be possible to use webdriver without server and have tests written for selenium rc to still work.  Anything related to Python seemed it indicate that I would need to keep selenium server or change the code of the old tests to keep them working.  Is this the case?  Any advice, or resources to help with the upgrade process would be very much appreciated!
