Hi there,

Its been a while that I've learned Java. Hence, I want to know what
are all JAVA topics/syllabus needed to use Selenium. I am looking
forward for creating my own framework for Selenium with Java Language.

Also, any best/easy source to learn JAVA & Selenium quickly if I am
ready spend 3-4 hours per day?

Thanks & Regards,
Kumar

Hi Kumar.  You don't need to know Java to use Selenium.  While it does support Java, it also supports other programming languages like C#, Perl and Python.

Selenium documentation can be found here, and the API reference can be found here.  I used these heaps when I was starting with Selenium.

Thanks,
Ed

Hi Ed,

Thank you for your reply.

However, I am not just using selenium for testing, but also for
setting up the framework for our software product which needs to be
tested.
So, I guess, we should know some programming language in order write
down the code for the framework setup.

Thanks,
Kumar

If you are effectively learning java from scratch, a book may be
worthwhile. The one I used a while ago was Thinking in Java. If you
will be using a database or Excel spreadsheets for test data, JDBC
would be the package you most likely use for database access
(Hibernate is an alternative approach), and POI is one of the Excel-
access packages.

Here is the generally-recommended paradigm for writing Selenium tests:

http://code.google.com/p/selenium/wiki/PageObjects

Since you're starting from scratch, you might want to start with the
new (beta level) Selenium 2, so you could browse the javadoc at

http://selenium.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/docs/api/java/index.html

starting with WebDriver and WebElement items in the bottom left frame.

go here https://code.google.com/p/selenium/
pick one of the supported languages.
learn the basics of it.
then learn about how to write tests in that language

HI Kumari,
I was also new to Selenium, and oi'm not a programmer even, I am a business analyst and as per my job role we have to perform QA as well.
I have never done test automation and once i joined with the new company they have introduced selenium automation to me,  first i got scared as i will not be able to catch up but since i've got some Java Background knowledge i was able to learn it smoothly.
If you are planning to use Java as your Base language for automation then i believe if you have the basic knowledge in java, And the OOP concepts then itz easy to catch up. Use W3c School to learn Java, and If you wanna learn Selenium form the very basics i have blogged some of the things that i have learned, ( form the scratch) It will be good for someone who is totally new and trying to learn from the scratch. Its Anjiztechshare.blogspot.com

Good luck thr
Regardz

Hi Kumar,
you need to have some basic understanding about java language for start up with Selenium Webdriver. Later its up to you how much you want to explore java to automate things efficiently.
Here is one Blog regarding Selenium and java: http://www.selenium143.blogspot.in/ , it contains lots of java topics with examples

Toast!!
