testcases slow on one machine versus another

My team is using the exact same jar file to run testcases with. But, it seems some machines run things very fast, yet other machines (like mine which is a very new laptop) run slower.
The purpose of the automated testing was to speed things up, but this doesn't necessarily happen on my laptop. Is there a setting that needs to be updated/changed?
