Hi,
Can we run the webdriver scripts while monitor is turned off.

I got the below error.

org.openqa.selenium.remote.SessionNotFoundException: session 39c8126e-c794-4a08-a95f-84dd7c05f5d6 does not exist Command duration or timeout: 3 milliseconds

Thanks,
Anjaneyulu Vujani

While the monitor is turned off, or while the desktop is locked?

Yes, we are running our test, while monitor is off. We are runing them in VMs.

Would desktop locked work across all browsers, say like IE? I know monitor off (but unlocked desktop) should work in general.

Yes it should work when monitor is off or system is locked.

So just a try at your end might be this would help you to understand whether it works or not!!!

But if your question is something like executing your script without browser then same can be done using HTMLUNit and Phantomjs.

I think I recall hearing some issues when screen was locked or like using remote desktop (and you disconnect but not log off session = like locked), for some browsers, for some actions, if not all, like taking screenshots, probably for IE.

So yes, one should just try and see if it works or not. I just wanted to point that out. Rather than have folks assume it works as others have mentioned here.

I know outside of Selenium, some desktop GUI automation tools have trouble with locked screens, but none ever have trouble with a monitor turned off. Computer based screen saver is a different case though (not talking about computer/monitor based power save mode where monitor screen goes blank), similar to locked screen.

You should be able to run, Even webdriver works with headless browser. That is in the OS without Display configured. But some activities like mouse movements, hover may not be working in these.

But yes there is no impact on switching off monitors :)

Happy Testing.
