I have zero javascript Web UI experience. I am using Selenium IDE firefox extension https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/selenium-ide/ to be able to repeat a set of actions like going to a website and clicking on a set of links. I am able to record this as a test and execute it successfully. However, the test runs in a new browser all the time. Any way to make it run in a new tab of the existing browser?

It runs in a new window of the same browsing session, in practice there is no difference whether it is a different window or not.
It is just to make it easier to dispose of the tabs once you close the IDE.

Yeah but I am not doing this for testing. I am doing this to automate a workflow that I repeatedly do. Is there a way to run it in the same tab?

I understand that in the latest version of the IDE, we have improved the behavior for testing, but hindered the usability for workflow automations.
We are planning on bringing that back, you'll be able to choose between the two workflows in the next version (3.5.0).
