geckodriver suppress console window (python)?

I want to suppress the empty console window that appears when geckodriver is launched.

I found some old posts saying that this requires a source code patch to webdriver where it launches geckodriver.

Is that still the case, or is there an "official" setting to cause geckodriver to start without a console? Even starting with it minimized would be an improvement.
