Wait for page to load

The command wait for page to load doesnt work in internet explorer at
many instances. I think it does not work where the page is not changed
completely ie. some minor changes in page.
Is there any solution for this ?
I used sleep command to eliminate this error but it's not reliable and
slow down the execution speed.

Does anybody can tell me how successful selenium is on mac when we
executes test cases on safari ?
