Hi all,

I hope we yet remember our commitment for - http://area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/4693/selenium which would be way better than using Google groups for Selenium questions.

This is also posted at support page - http://seleniumhq.org/support/

and we have almost reached 69%. A few more commits and it should be 100% (I suppose this is the way to make it reach there) We just need to encourage more and more users to commit to it.

So do let others know about this proposed site (post it on you blog, FB, Twitter) and make it reach 100%

Thanks

~T

Is there any particular reason why we should not advertise http://stackoverflow.com/questions/ask?tags=selenium, like Guava does ( seach for ask a question )?

There's one reason.  Confusion.  We need to totally separate Selenium. OldWebDriver and Selenium2 content somehow.

Try Googling for results : http://www.google.com/search?q=selenium+locator+strategies to see how bad it is.

Though I am yet not sure, but I suppose more commitment is the only
way to reach target of 100%
I hope you all have already begun publicizing it in you network. (and
I have too)
I am personally great fan of stack exchange site and Google groups can
not match its capabilities for me.

Thanks

Except that we don't. What we need is to better communicate that
Selenium 2 'the brand' is Se-IDE, Se-RC, WebDriver, Server. I don't
think we even need a special Se one since a lot of questions are often
runner/structure related and should be in the larger SO. But that's not
the point here. The point is, can we please stop talking about Se 1 vs 2
and start talking [louder] in terms of Se-RC vs WebDriver. (And while
we're at it, stop calling the Se-RC -> WebDriver API switch an
'upgrade'? It's a conversion.)

The switch from a JS framework to something bound tightly to the
browser is, however, an upgrade.

Looks like we are going tangential on this and back to Selenium 1/
Selenium 2 discussion.
Objective of this thread is to speed up to get Selenium Site committed
on area51.
I asked area51 about it and there response -

Hi Tarun,

Yes, to reach 100% commitment you'll need to get more people to commit
to the site, especially people who already have accounts in the Stack
Exchange network. You can read more about it in the Area 51 FAQ:
http://area51.stackexchange.com/faq

I would try in my n/w how many I could get to commit to site, please
do same in your n/w too.
I am going to post this on Selenium User Group also.
And I wonder where Dave is who had proposed the site on area51.
Dave are you listening?

Thanks

Agree: Let's spread the word and get more people to commit. At the Selenium conference maybe we can make an announcement or something. Then once we have it we can decide how to best use it.

That all said, Simon and Adam's emails still raise a very critical point: we still are failing to spell out a strong vision for "Selenium 2" and are doing an even worse job for all the Se 1 users who are looking for guidance on what has changed, why it's a good thing, migration path, etc.

I'm hoping to devs can really spend some time hammering this out this week in SF. I'll see many of you Tues and Weds and I'm sure we'll discuss!

I blogged - http://seleniumsoftwaretesting.blogspot.com/2011/03/did-you-support-selenium-question-site.html
I FBed,
I Linked in "ed",
I asked my colleagues to support it,
Posted on QA Forums - http://www.sqaforums.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=666605&an=0&page=0#Post666605

Yet not much progress on count :-(
There are zillions of Selenium users and we are not able to garner
enough support for Selenium Site. Remember it's been 9 months since
Dave first proposed it on area 51

One quick question -

Is it possible to make this announcement on Google Selenium User
Groups? Announcement which could appear as the top header. Does Google
Groups allow this?
We may receive tremendous support from announcement.

Tarun,

I am all for those things, I have done it myself. The problem in making the percentage go up is we need either thousands of people who have never used a stackoverflow site or a few who have and have a high stackoverflow reputation.

I am all for putting it in the user group but we have done it before and it easily gets lost there.

What do you think of having an announcement posted on Selenium user
group (Though I am not sure if it is possible more over I don't have
moderator rights also)
We receive lots of posts in a day and even if a bunch of new users
commit to area51 site, it would not take too long before we reach
thousand.

So far I have got the feeling that we are all yes for it (almost all
of us) and if we try a little more it should be doable.

n.b
I posted about Selenium-area51 site on Stack Overflow site but it was
closed as it does not count as a valid question.
I do follow Selenium StackOver flow questions and would try to attract
some more users from there as well as from existing Google groups
Selenium users.

Google Group does not even allows to have email signature!!!!
I need to copy pate (emoticon-pouting) about area51 site in each posts
to attract more users in selenium user forum.

Google Groups does let you put a custom footer automatically in the messages.  Go to your group and click "Group Settings" on the right.  Then look under the "Email Delivery" tab.  Screen shot attached.  Note below that this group is currently using the default footer.
