Ifyou did not pre-order your MATLAB license during our license assessment survey in July, please order your license by visiting the Cornell Software Licensing page. Click MATLAB in the left sidebar.
Your MATLAB volume license allows you to install in either a single-user or a network license configuration. Please note that you need to purchase multiple licenses to take full advantage of the network option.
A single-user license allows installation onto one Cornell-owned computer. If you have been assigned a laptop computer for travel, you may also install MATLAB onto that machine under your single-user license.
Home use: In addition, your MATLAB license allows home use at no additional charge: you may install MATLAB onto your personally-owned equipment under your single-user license. You may not run MATLAB on multiple machines at the same time under one single-user license.
A network license entitles you to install MATLAB on multiple machines on the same subnet, with one designated as a MATLAB license server. You can then use MATLAB simultaneously on a number of machines equal to the number of licenses that you purchased.
MATLAB student licenses are available at no cost to all registered full-time and part-time students at Cornell University and the Weill Cornell Medical College. Installation is authorized for a single computer that is the personal property of the student. Student licenses may NOT be installed onto any Cornell-owned computer.
We recommend downloading MATLAB directly from the vendor. You may obtain any supported version of MATLAB from Mathworks. You will need to register your
Ne...@cornell.edu address with MathWorks to download the software.
If you have a situation where downloading MATLAB directly from the vendor is impractical, you may be able to download an installer from Cornell's local download server instead. Please contact CU Software for the download link. Specify the specific MATLAB release you need (the current release is 2022b), and whether it is for Windows, macOS, or Linux. The current release is usually available immediately; prior releases may take 2-5 business days to prepare.
The MATLAB high-performance language for technical computing integrates computation, visualization, and programming in an easy-to-use environment where problems and solutions are expressed in familiar mathematical notation.
University of Virginia has recently upgraded our Matlab license so that Matlab is available to everyone at UVA. There is one version of Matlab for students, faculty, and staff. MATLAB is available on the Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux platforms. To get started go to the UVA Software Gateway Matlab can be found under the Data Analysis & Research grouping. Students may also use Matlab on Remote Desktop.
The Campus Wide License configuration now includes all 100+ MathWorks products and 2 major services that were paid options in the past. To better reflect the new configuration they have re-named the license option to Campus Wide Suite (CWS). We will gain access to: 100+ of our software products vs. the 53 and MATLAB Grader LMS integration subscription.
The Individual license should be used by students, faculty, and staff to download an individual stand-alone copy of the software for each of the machines on which they are the sole MATLAB user (includes university-owned and personal machines). The MATLAB Portal is where end users can download MATLAB, get free training, contact support, and discover additional resources.
MathWorks Cloud Services, to include MATLAB Online and MATLAB Drive, is acceptable for the storage of moderately sensitive, internal-use, and public data as defined by the University Data Protection Standards. Mathworks Cloud Services is not appropriate for the storage of data that is classified as highly sensitive such as identified Personal Health Information (PHI) or bank account numbers.
Furthermore, the following data types are specifically prohibited from storage in MathWorks Cloud Services: export controlled data (e.g., ITAR), data covered by FISMA, DFARS
252.204-7012, and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). MathWorks Cloud Services is not configured to meet the controls required for these types of data. You are responsible for ensuring that MathWorks Cloud Services is an appropriate environment for the data you store. Guidance regarding these guidelines and data classifications is available from UVA Information Security by emailing

Departments can pay a low cost annual subscription fee for access to Maple. Maple is an advanced mathematical application for use on RIT-owned faculty and staff computers. For more information please contact the School of Mathematical Sciences. For instructions on installing this software (COS faculty/staff), please contact your system administrator.
MATLAB is a programming platform used to analyze data, develop algorithms, and create models and applications. RIT has a licensing agreement with MathWorks to provide faculty, staff and students with access to many products in the MATLAB suite. The software is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
Faculty, Staff, and Students can install MATLAB on their personally owned computers if their home base is the Rochester NY campus. If you are at a global campus, you are not allowed to use this license at this time.
RIT has secured a licensing agreement with Microsoft to provide faculty and staff with access to the most commonly used Microsoft software and operating systems for their work computers. This agreement covers desktop and laptop computers only and does not include server software. Additionally, all faculty, staff, and current RIT students have access to Office 365, which provides online access to popular Office applications.
Minitab is statistical software. Several departments are sharing a campus license for Minitab and Minitab Express for use on RIT-owned computers. Both are also available to all current students and faculty on their personal computer, for academic purposes.
Faculty and staff that have an RIT-owned device, have the Office Productivity suite installed on that computer. Additionally, Office 365 is offered to all faculty, staff, and current RIT students and provides access to popular Office applications through any internet browser.
ITS maintains an annual academic subscription site license for SAS for Windows. SAS brings you a complete suite of products for data access, data management, data analysis and data presentation. The license provides the opportunity for RIT faculty, staff and registered students to subscribe to a suite of SAS products. Reach out to your system administrator for more information.
This license is available to all UCSB Faculty, Staff, and Students. Visitors or visiting researchers may access the software in a number of labs or on their hosting department's UC-owned computers. Only UCSB employees and students may download Matlab to their personal computers.
Please go to the UCSB MathWorks page to download the software. Then, if you haven't logged in before, create a new MathWorks account using your UCSB Email (you will need to create a password for the account), to gain access to a Matlab license.
R2015b will be the last release of the 32-bit version of MATLAB for Windows. MathWorks releases subsequent to R2015b will not be available for the 32-bit Windows operating system. To use releases after R2015b, impacted users are advised to migrate to 64-bit Windows at this time. They can continue to use releases up through R2015b. MathWorks technical support engineers will continue to provide support for those releases on 32-bit Windows.
