Hi, everyone. Just a quick message--I was communicating with Kevin Molina from SOS Limón over the weekend about how excited he was to go to the US for university, and in our communication it became apparent that he had no idea how to navigate the airport or read his itinerary or make the transfers in Dallas and Chicago. So, we went over everything together and he'll be fine. Right now, he's on his way to Wartburg College, in Iowa, where he will play varsity soccer. In fact, he texted me today from SJO just before he boarded to say that checking in, paying the airport tax, going through security had all gone well.
Small things for us who travel all the time, but very significant and new experiences for Kevin who, unlike most of the other UWC kids who studied at one of the colleges in a different country, is having that same experience of going abroad now--at the end of his UWC experience.
It reminds me that the work we do together is wonderful and important work, and I wanted to share this story with you because you made all of this possible for Kevin. He and I had lunch together a few weeks ago, and without any prompting from me whatsoever, he began to talk about how UWC had changed him and how he hoped he would be able to give back to his country and especially to SOS kids in the future. He was clearly moved by what UWC had done for him, and again, you are the people who made that possible, and you make it possible or so many kids.
So, thanks. I know we've had our disagreements in the past, and I know we will probably clash again in the future, but the work we do together really does make a difference, and I just want to say thanks.
John
