Is it possible to use a mobile hotspot wifi signal as the input for the 7800 Router? I have a very slow dish network as my usual internet provider. The Nighthawk router provides excellent wi-fi coverage in my house and surrounding property. My smartphone hotspot has very fast download speed with an unlimited data plan. Can I this hotspot or a dedicated hotspot modem to link via wi-fi to the router?
Sadly, the "bridge" word has several different meanings. But you are right, there is a "wifi/repeater bridge" option in there. However, to use that you have to be able to set up the source of the wifi signal. Not all routers can act as the source for a bridge.
I mentioned using a mobile hotspot modem because you might be able to use one of those as the source for a router, even if you have to use it in AP mode. To see if that is an option, you'd have to pick a mobile hotspot and check its manual.
You have been told that there are two ways to use an R7800. As a wifi access point wired in, or as a wireless repeater (bridge). The manual you were directed to explains how to set up either of these.
I've this same problem on iPhone 8 running iOS 13.1.3. My devices (Windows laptop, Fire TV, Android phone) can see the iPhone hotspot and connects to it but there is no internet connectivity thru hotspot, though i can browse internet on my iPhone.
Having same issues with my 8plus. Following step 10 worked except I only have internet on IPV4, but at least I have it, so thank you. I use the hotspot for work in the field, I guess the question now is am I going have to do step 10 every time I need internet while working. As with others my hotspot was fine until I updated to 13.1.3.
Lost internet connection while writing this back on house internet now. I have been to my carrier several times and they said they are having a lot of calls about hotspot issues on the iphones. So yes Apple please fix this.
I give full credit to these solutions to ska8ter skate. This works for Roku: turn off WiFi on your iOS device. Go to Roku Settings, Then System, Advanced System Settings, choose Network Connection Reset and reset connection.
After updating to iOS 13.2, the issue is resolved. I can now connect to hotspot and get internet access as well on other devices. No issues even after i connect these other devices to another WiFi or hotspot and connect again to iPhone hotspot.
I'm trying to play a video game with my friends that requires a local wifi network that allows UDP broadcasts. The dorm wifi doesn't allow UDP broadcasts, so I'm trying to set up my laptop as a hotspot. Windows 10 by default allows you to share an internet connection over wifi, but you must have an internet connection to do so. Sharing the wifi connection results in a lot of problems such as constant disconnects, and I don't have access to an ethernet connection to share. Is there some way I can set up a wifi network without actually sharing an internet connection?
1.) Open an elevated command prompt. Win+X and choose CMD (Admin) OR type in "cmd" or "command prompt" into Windows Search by typing into Start Menu and then right click "Command Prompt" and select "Run As Administrator"
2.) Check if your system is capable run this command: netsh wlan show drivers. Scroll down to Hosted network supported. If it saysYes you are in luck; if No there is no easy alternative and don't continue.
Replace %ssid% with your Wifi or "Hotspot" Name or SSID. E.g. ssid=MyGreatHotspot. Replace %pass% with your Wifi or "Hotspot" Password. It must be 8 characters long at a minimum. E.g. key=strongPasswordsAreWEAK.
4.) After that run the command, netsh wlan start hostednetwork, to start the "Hotspot" broadcast. Right now you can play without internet connection after all devices connect. Remember to check IP addresses of all your individual devices in order to connect to each other. The hotspot's IP Address usually is "192.168.137.1".
5.) Open Run (Win + R) or by searching for Run and enter in ncpa.cpl, then press Enter. A new adapter has shown in the screen it should say something along the lines of "Microsoft Hosted Network Virtual Adapter". (Optional if you're OCD, rename that one if its says "L.A.N Connection* 15" or rather to like "Hotspot"). Right click the Internet Connect Source you want to share internet from and choose "Properties." Go to the "Sharing" Tab and checkmark or toggle on "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet Connection." Apply, OK to save changes.
In case writing your own application is a possibility, have a look at the WiFi Direct API, which offers a legacy mode. Enabling the legacy mode will create a SoftAP with the specified SSID and password. However, specifying no password doesn't seem to be supported.
Have a look at the IoTOnboarding sample to see the legacy mode in action (and to have a better 'documentation' than what Microsoft officially provides): IotOnboarding/IoTOnboardingService/OnboardingAccessPoint.cs
If you are still using windows 10, then just open "Microsoft Store" from Start Menu. Find the app named as "Hotspot Lite" from there and just install it. Now open the app and configure the settings if you want or not. Done!!
I followed a tutorial on Youtube that would essentially turn your Raspberry Pi into a hotspot/access point. I did the exact same processes he did, even looking at the Pi Documentations to see if I had missed anything. I just intended on connecting my pi to any ethernet port and sharing that wifi with others.
Although the network would appear on my other devices, it did not have any proper internet connection. The Pi itself could not pick up anything from its ethernet connection or wirelessly from the main router.
Because the information in the question is rather scarce, and "some random video" (as @milliways calls it) of more that 20 minutes doesn't help much, we will resort to basic fault searching. Use -point-routed.md as reference material.
You state that the network appears on other devices. That would mean that the SSID is broadcasted. Can those other devices connect to the Pi? Can they ping the Pi? If that is the case, the wireless part is OK.
See if the other devices get an IP address. If they don't get an IP address, verify your DHCP configuration. Also verify that on those other devices the default gateway is the IP address of the Pi (that is: the address of the pi on the wlan).
I am a comcast business customer. In the past, I have used the same login credentials to access the xfinity wifi hotspots as I do for my comcast business account. When last I traveled (early September) things were working fine. This week, I repeatedly get a "username not found" error, and it tells me that I need to configure my xfinity account from my business account. I contacted the online "chat" help from the comcast business site, and they told me they could not correct it and would escalate the issue. What I received was an automated email with links on how to configure a hotspot.
Thanks for reaching out to us on our Comcast Business Support Forums, sgarrabrant. I can take a look at your username and see what's going on with the Xfinity Hotspot access. Could you send me a private message with your full name, the phone number listed on the account and, the username you use to log in with?
Seems like this issue is reported all over this thread. Noone mentions the cause. I'm betting that XFINITY WiFi only recognizes consumer Xfinity accounts and somehow Comcast Business/Teleworker accounts no longer are authenticated correctly without some manual intervention by a "Comcast Employee". Is this why we all have to privately message someone for every one of these reports?
Thanks for reaching out to us, sorry you're having this issue. No, there hasn't been a change on how to gain or who has access. We request you private message us because typically it's something unique to that individual that is causing the issue. It helps us to be able to identify the issue and get it solved. Let's take a closer look at what's going on with your access. Please send a private message with your name along with your account number to proceed.
I have same problem. My Comcast Business login is not recognized in "xfinitywifi" or "XFINITY" networks. I wasted countless hours with Comcast support trying to reslove the issue. But, still no solution. If I understand there are thousands of businesses utilizing Comcast Business services and comcast support I been dealing with, sounds like have little knowladge of the issue.
Forget having to sign in every time you want WiFi access at an Optimum WiFi hotspot. With Automatic sign-in, you register your device once and you'll automatically connect whenever you enter a hotspot.
Accessing an Optimum WiFi hotspot is easy. You just need your Optimum ID, password and a WiFi enabled device. If you already have an Optimum email address, your Optimum ID is what's shown before the @ sign. For example, if your email is
