Since 2003 I've been using iMovie 4 and latterly iMovie HD6 to edit home movies then burn them onto DVD-R and DVD+R media. My dilemma is that the father of my two granddaughters is going to get a blu-ray player and the videos I've done of them since they were babies are all on the DVD HD media, as the future videos will continue to be. I don't want to buy blu-ray media just for this reason (even if they are accepted to burn on my iMac DVD burner/player) also I've got a large stock of DVD + and - R blank media.

So I ended up fixing the ps3. Searched online about the issue and apparently the boot file in the system that enables it to read blu ray format can become corrupted causing the unit to not read blu rays. So you have to do a full system restore (11+ hours) that will replace the corrupted file with a new one.

Well I thought I fixed it because the game I use to test is prototype and that worked in the morning. Then when I got home from work I decided to try a blu ray movie so I tried the incredible hulk and that didn't read so I thought that was odd.

Well it seems like there is no fix as to why the Blu Ray player reads some blu rays and not others...some one in a forum pointed out that theirs didn't play dual layer blu rays...not sure which ones those are, but in my situation it plays COD Black Ops 2 perfectly and I'm sure that's dual layer since it's fairly new.

My conclusion for it being the motor that moves the lens back and forth is this: The PS3 has limited time to fetch data it needs, and if the data is close (games that work) then it has no problem but if the data is spread out across the disc then it fails. So I think the lens isn't moving too slow to fetch the data at the proper time. LOL Kinda a wild assumption I know.

My slim PS3 stopped playing bluray movies but still played games, it played DVDs fine due to it having a second eye for playing DVDs and CDs. The last versions of the fat PS3 and all slim and new slim models have a two eye setup, one eye to read bluray disks, the other to read DVDs and CDs to extend the life of the bluray eye.

Well anyway it started to not read any games, it still played DVDs and CDs and PS1 games (its past its warranty) so I took it apart and took a q tip and dabbed it in some alcohol (doesn't require it to be drenched) and spun it lightly on both eyes and took the dry end to wipe off and remove any excess dirt and alcohol. I then took a can of compressed air and blew into the laser eyes and a clump of dust blew out. Assembled the unit and now it instantly sees all disks and plays all games and bluray movies.

If you replaced the eye with a new one, maybe the replacement is faulty, or one of the data connections isn't making a proper connection (like dust or hair fell into the connector). How about blowing out the old eye and cleaning the two eyes with alcohol and a q tip and reinstall that back into the unit and see if that works.

So last night I finally fixed my friends ps3 slim...what I did was replace the new lens I bought on ebay with his old one...so apparently my replacement lens came DOA...and the real problen was corrupted boot file so when I restored his ps3 it actually fixed the problem.

Luis Correia, I do not think that this is a humble request. Nobody is going to tear their console apart and disconnect a cable, to answer your question. The goal on here is to assist others, not to get validated answers, so you are not harming anyone by not validating. I do wish you the best of luck.

I know it's been like 5 year but I tried it now, it will turn on and all but if have multiman or webman (to play your backups) it will just freeze and show you a black screen. Anything else seems to work

I don't have a console to test with myself, but I searched around the net and the consensus is that the PS3 will work without the BDR installed. You do however need to have the driver board installed.

Wish I could help, but mine doesn't even power up or down. Have you tried connecting the RCA cables and booting in Safe Mode? That would tell you if the video is coming through your video cable or not.

Hi I too have this problem. In my case wanted to make a small cluster and shockingly this one is linux capable. Fortunately the original owner broke it just before the new fw came out so may try it with just pcb connected to see what it does.

I have a sony BDP-S370 blu-ray player and I can't find out to setup the remote so it controls the volume on my panasonic tv. I've looked at the sony manual and on page 32 it lists the code numbers of controllable tv's and panasonic is listed with code numbers 17, 49. The manual however does not give any guidance as to where you enter these codes.

I have a lg 37LG3000 (7 years old) and a new Sony blu ray player BDP S3500 but cannot get the volume etc to work with my tv. According to instructions states just need to press the TV on button and the red button on the DVDs remote but doesn't do anything. Please can you advise?.

I just Googled "Samsung Bluray http disabled"' and found this interesting link on another forum. Looks like either manually configuring a DNS server address on the Blu-Ray player or manually configuring a static IP, gateway address and DNS server address works.

I have a Samsung Bluray BD E5300. It used to work fine for 4 years. Then one day it decided it didn't want to connect to the internet anymore. I have been online for over six months looking for a solution. It is the final connection 'Internet Service Test' that is having the 'HTTP port is disabled' message. I have tried every 'trick' out there. It is not the router I have come to realize. The player was originally connected to one service provider with its router and now it is connected to a different one in a different town. So I believe it is the actual player that is the culprit. Any new suggestions out there? I'm just about ready to toss it out and buy a new one.

Finally!!!! The firmware update did the trick. After trying two different service providers, I came to the conclusion it was the player and not the router. I hope everyone else out there sees this who thinks it is an IP address issue.

Then I try the disc with several players. I would prefer to play my blu-rays with my stand alone Samsung blu-ray player. Samsung plays the test movie, when I press the play button in main menu. It also plays chapter 1 when I press that button in submenu. But it freezes (black screen), if I press the 2nd chapter button in submenu, or if I try to jump to the 2nd chapter when playing the movie. I got same results with the default menu and Red Smoke menu.

CyberLink PowerDVD 12 plays the movie and plays 1st chapter, when I press that button in submenu. But if I press the 2nd chapter button in submenu or move to the 2nd chapter, I get distorted video (strange color bars etc.). The movie rolls though, and audio seems to be ok. Same results with the default menu and Red Smoke menu.

Does the image (ISO file) play correctly in VLC and PowerDVD. Right click the image file and select Open with... , Windows Explorer or if the option is present Mount. This will mount the ISO file as a disk drive

The results you are getting are very odd, if the main movie plays all the way through without issues, yet gives issues when trying to play just the Chapters this would suggest there is an issue with the players

Strange problem, indeed. The chapter markers clearly are there, because the players "move" to the right "spot". But instead of playing the movie from that spot on, they either freeze completely (Samsung) or show weird color bars (PowerDVD). What's even more strange is that PowerDVD plays the audio from the 2nd chapter correctly. It's only the picture that is messed up. And both players play the 1st chapter correctly, when I press that button in the submenu. When playing the movie from start, PowerDVD allows me to jump to the next chapter when I choose that function. Samsung freezes if I try that.

edit. I made an additional test. Instead of placing the first chapter mark at the first frame of the movie, I placed it a few seconds later. Then I played the disc with PowerDVD. Now it couldn't even play the first chapter mark correctly (color bars). But if I played the movie from the main menu, it was fine. So it seems that my players can play the movie correctly only from the start. Any chapter marks that are beyond the first frame give bad results.

More information: I remembered, I also had an older version of MEP still installed in my computer (17.0.3.184). I tried to do the same test project with that version. I did everything exactly the same as I did with the 21.0.2.138 version... and the disc played smoothly in both Samsung and PowerDVD! The 2nd chapter markers were no problem at all.

So I can try to use the older version for my actual project. Unfortunately, it seems to be very slow with HD videos. So if anyone has any suggestions how make the newer version work, I'd be very happy. Would reinstallating help? And if I reinstalled my current version, would I have to also activate "content packs" etc. again?

@enilceline: Do you have the Blu-ray player registered to your TV's universal remote? If so, when you connect the Blu-ray player to the TV via HDMI, try using the TV remote to see if it responds. In the meantime, although I understand that you have tried some of these, please check out the troubleshooting steps below

I have already done that. It did not work.
While pressing the Stop button or Power button more than 5 seconds, what is it supposed to do ? (a sound, a light ?)
Nothing happens and it wtill does not work.

So I recently bought a blu-ray drive since I started accumulating a bunch of movies and shows on the format, and I was wondering if linux/ubuntu can actually play them? If not it's fine I can just reboot into windows but I have vlc player, restricted extras and the stuff required to play dvds, and my ubuntu partition plays dvds just fine. I'm in Australia (region 4) if that changes anything
