Subject: SEIU 721 2008 staff salaries
To: seiulocal7...@gmail.com

There's still a couple of pages to go, but here is most of 721 staff salaries for 2008 based on the 2008 LM-2 filings. I didn't have the time to put ALL the relevant information, but the names should be in alphabetical order. Based on the disparity of the salaries, I sure would like to know how they arrived at the figures and who authorized the pay increases from the 2007 salaries. If you start categorizing by job title you may start to notice some very interesting things about the mindset of whoever is making the financial decisions....cause it sure isn't the members!

No one is jumping to any unfounded conclusions here.

This is public information generated by the Department of Labor.   This information is reported to the Department of Labor by all unions.

The LM-2 Labor Union financial disclosure reports are the source for the information that Dan Mariscal has ascertained.

The report that Dan Mariscal is sharing with the members is not an editorial or commentary.   It is based on fact submitted by SEIU Local 721.

You can dismiss it if you wish to.

But it is intended for Local SEIU 721 member consumption if they wish to see where their dues are going.

And if you surmise that no one should get worked up about, "the information you left out could be very pertinent", can you please elaborate about what you are inferring.

All Dan is reporting is what the Department of Labor LM-2 Financial Disclosures publishes.

In my commentary, I did not indicate that there are additional expenses that the SEIU Local 721 appointed officers and appointed staff get paid for and are not reported in this report.  It would have taken more investigative time to discern the specific expenditures that are buried in the Department of Labor LM-2 Financial Disclosures of travel pay based on mileage distance accumulated every day by appointed officers and appointed staff members, per diem, meals and other out of pocket expenses that appointed staff and appointed officers are reimbursed for.

Possibly this is what you are alluding to.

Please explain.

Rafe

I think that before anyone gets all worked up the information you left out could be very pertinent. Actually other than job title, name an salary earned that year there is no other information provided.  until all the facts are in there is no use jumping to what may be unfounded conclusions.

For those of us who have gotten absolutely nothing from the union when we have requested information regarding fiscal matters, Dan's report beats a blank.

If you wish to wait for some sort of report, good luck.

I have been with SEIU 347, 14 years in June, and I have never seen a financial report made to the members.   Two of those last years I have been in 721.   Ain't seen nothing yet.

Just disregard the emails that are not relevant to your interest and those of us that ascertain information regarding the financial picture of our union will continue to share it with those who are interested in this subject.

Rafe
as i recall what Dan stated that all the information was not included. all i was saying is that until that information is also shown then its hard to make a valid decision. what   he stated was public information but it was incomplete by his admission. that may be due to a time constraint on his part. I'm sure he has other things to do than that, i would hope so. but he did say "I didn't have time to put all the relevant information." its not being dismissed but just because a comment, a comment supported by Dan as incomplete is made i feel its in everyones best interest to wait till the story is told. there maybe be some very solid reasons as to why things are being done as they are.
its to easy for people to read into issues things that are unsupported now.
its a bit like a book half read. was it Mr. mustard in the kitchen... its easy to conjecture what you please but lets get it right.
I'm sure what Dan reported is accurate, just not complete as stated before.

Larry,

This was your original statement:

I think that before anyone gets all worked up the information you left out could be very pertinent. Actually other than job title, name an salary earned that year there is no other information provided.  until all the facts are in there is no use jumping to what may be unfounded conclusions.
Larry

Larry, those were your words verbatim.

Dan Mariscal's report on LM-2 Financial Disclosures is an example of  information that should be reported to the members and it is not.  For those of us who wish to be informed of these matters, this was a  beginning, even though it had to be provided by a member on his own time.

The report that Dan Mariscal shared with us did not expose any obvious criminal evidence and no one suggested exposing this information would.

Possibly you have not been aware of some of the recent requests for the expense of recent dog and pony shows that you may even condone.   For example when we requested from the appointed staff and appointed officers how much did the Christmas parties, one which was hosted at the Bonaventure hotel in  Los Angeles cost.  The appointed staff and appointed officers refused to report this information to the members.

Reminder, Larry.  All of the members were not invited to this event, the Christmas party.   Of course everyone would not have attended, but don't you think that if someone is going to take money out of your checking account, that they should at least invite you to the party?

The appointed staff and appointed officers just recently hosted a soiree at the union hall for the former appointed president of SEIU Local 721, Annelle Grajeda, who stepped down from:

1: appointed position of president of the Local
2: chairman of a state Labor council
3: vice president of SEIU International

(By the way Larry, the reason Annelle Grajeda had to step down was because of financial arrangements that were made between her former boyfriend and your SEIU money which brings us back to financial disclosure)

Now, back to the recent example of financial management and disclosure.   The recent farewell soiree for the stepping down Annelle Grajeda took place at "Our" union hall, on "Our" union dime.

Hold it right there, Larry.   Before you think that I have any problem with the soiree.

I do not.

What I have a problem with is that the members were not invited, let alone informed.

Evidently, I have to repeat the issues that concern me for anyone who misunderstands my point.

Accountability and transparency.

Possibly if the issues of accountability and transparency resonate in these emails, some of the members will get it and others probably never will or want to for whatever reason.

I hope this helps you understand.

Please tell me when I said e mails even Dans mini report was without relevance. Please tell me when I said that. As you review my statements you will find that assertion was never made.  And when did I indicate that sharing information was wrong. All I can say is even Dan said the report was missing relevant information. Or do you feel it best to not have that information. I don't know what the information will bring and I doubt you do. So until the facts are known, and until you know my interests I suggest making comments suggesting you do is moot.
If you remember the idea you had of a pension plan and our discussion. You stated that the number of questions i posed needed to be answered. Without doing due diligence only a distaster will loom. This isn't any different.
What is wrong with waiting for the information. I'm sure you support the truth. And no I'm not suggesting one point of view over another. Its simply and observation born with years of experiences working within corporations.
