Guys,
Good news!
If you were one of those members who would have been affected by the "Narrow" HMO group proposed for the coming new enrollment year, we have been informed that this will no longer be the case. A new agreement has been hammered out and the 2013 enrollment will allow those of us who have been going to the same health service provider to do so for at least one more year.
Good work Joint Labor!
And thank you!

Dear Friend:
Earlier this month, the Los Angeles city Joint Labor-Management Benefits Committee made changes to the FLEX Benefits program.
As a result of these changes, members who wanted to keep their Anthem Blue Cross HMO Full Network Plan would have been left without coverage for six months. We let the city know this was unacceptable.
I'm happy to report that the City Council agreed with us. Members who wish to keep their Anthem Blue Cross HMO Full Network Plan will be able to do so without interruption or gaps in coverage.
New Materials Coming Your Way
Updated enrollment materials are being mailed to you this week. The materials include the FLEX enrollment update and a mini-guide to your updated benefits options. Please review them. This year's Open Enrollment period has been extended through Nov. 15.
We previously emailed you a Q&A flyer with information about this year's changes to your benefits. You can also find the information on the 721 website.
If you have more questions, please call the Benefits Service Center at (800) 778-2133.
You can also call the 721 Member Connection at (877) 721-4968.

Dearest Rafe,
For whatever reason, you decided that the anti-illegal immigrant rants of Ed Kaufman should recieve attention when everyone knows that there are much more important topics that need be dealt with. Still, you did what you did, for whatever reasons you had.
Let's cut to chase: If someone says "Illegal immigrant" and you immediately picture a Mexican, then it is likely that your problem is not with undocumented aliens, but with Mexicans.
If your evidence of the costs of undocumented immigration consists of e-mail blasts, talk radio, Fox News, personal anecdotes, etc., and NOT of non-partison research, with provable financial figures, then maybe your point of view is based on personal bias, established long before you heard any "news".
Immigration is a red herring that has absolutely nothing to do with your declining pay and benefits. Your situation is dire and getting worse for one simple reason: Years ago, City employees decided that they would settle for less, and that is exactly what they got. Year after year, workers gave and gave, to the point that our Civic leaders know they can wring even more from workers, for all eternity.
Until such time as City Employees develope a sense of self-worth, work conditions will decline.
It is up to each and every Worker to decide for him or herself if appeasement is better than opposition, if subjugation is better than pride, if McJobs are better than Mastery.

Bruce,
I am a custodian of this email address and if a reader has something on his or her mind that he or she wishes to discuss, it is not my job to decide which social issues are best for the readers.
I am attempting to do the best that I can.
Candi sent an email that was just too "busy". Too much information. So I am not sending Candi's email.
That was a judgement call.
K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Stupid
This subject of illegal immigration has stirred the interest of a few and it's a good indicator for the rest to get an inkling of what the social issue of illegal immigration means to others.
Thank you for your interest.

Brother Rafe, Mr. Kaufman,
I am not a very political minded person but I just can't help weighing on the subject of argument between the two of you. It is no secret that the largest slice on the pie graph of federal expenses is what we call "entitlements." It covers health and dental care for those without health and dental insurance, hospitalization and or hospice care for those unable to pay for these kind of expenses, preventive health care, and SSI benefits even for those who came from other countries and never worked or paid taxes a day in their lives (in this country), just to name a few. I am not bitter, because I realize that it is what this nation was founded for and promises-and what that boils down to is dignity for everyone who chooses to come to these shores. It is also founded on the belief that among the crop of immigrants who come here daily, there are those who will rise above all challenges and will contribute immensely towards the improvement of this nation.
I offer no solutions, but I believe that President Obama is on the right track by proposing that those who gain benefits from undocumented labor should be partly obligated to provide health care for their undocumented employees. Of course, there other economic drains like the families of those who are imprisoned, who also qualify for "entitlement benefits." I am thinking that prison lifers should be trained for cottage industries for gainful employment and that judges require, as part of their sentences, reparation for their victims.
Everyone, should bear some of the load!
Respectfully,
Tommy Resulto
