Gerardo,

I have not updated Segue in a while. I found that every time the AWS
API or R changed I had to maintain bootstraplatestR.sh... it became a
maintenance nightmare.

While not as easy as Segue (when Segue was maintained) R with
Starcluster looks like a possibility:
http://ronert-obst.com/blog/2013-09-01-starcluster.html

The idea is to use Starcluster to fire up the backend cluster, then
use the nodes for work, then shut em down.

Good luck and if you find a replacement you like better, please let me
know. Every few months someone asks me the same question.

Hello,

can you tell me if Segue is still maintained? Is it still working with current versions of R?
What are alternatives that can be used?

It would be great if you could give me a short answer, although I know this list hast not been used for a while.

Best regards
Benedikt

Thanks for your interest Benedikt. No, Segue is no longer being maintained. The fastest moving part to keep up with was not the latest version of R, but rather the rapid changes to the EMR API.

If I were you, I'd pursue the Hadoop packages offered by Revolution Computing: http://www.revolutionanalytics.com/big-analytics-hadoop-and-edws

Their suite of tools include a distributed apply function that is much like what Segue did with EMR.

Good luck!
