Have you checked whether Dean Kamen, or Heinz, or another Segway engineer
may speak?

Segway obstacle courses and some Segway Polo?

Lessons on how to care for your Segway, repair it, and maybe a group that
will create additional Segway events in Indy and the Midwest?

A marketplace for Segway Stuff.

I hope that helps :)

Best,

-Auri

Auri,

Great ideas, Dean was a REAL DOWNER when he spoke at the last SegwayFesT, and since we will have a good representation from the Segs4Vets guys and DRAFT, I doubt we will ask Dean to speak again.  Though he may come, but I sort of doubt it.    For sure we will have some of the Segway Engineers there to discuss stuff, I am hoping Doug Field, Segway Employee # 1, and Derek Hugger the famed young guy who loves to do Segway eXtreme gliding .

Wen is working on some Segway competitive games, and it is now official that the WOZ CUP, the International world cup of Segway Polo will be played at FesT.

We are planning on a Segway care and feeding workshop as one of the seminars.

And there will be a Swap Meet on Saturday during lunch, as well as a Vendor Area throughout FesT, and a Judged Segway Show at the Welcome Reception.

Anyone who wants to work on developing something for the event, let Sal or Nora know, and they can get you started.  One of the big things about this event is the active involvment from the local users.

Will,

I agree that Dean was a bit of a downer, but I'm sure he had a reason
for bringing up that topic.

It might have something to do that he was invited to come to that
whole draft award stuff, to me Dean doesn't seem to be a man that
likes to be in the spotlight. And that some disabled rights advocates
want to award him for what he has done with the Segway, might be
enough for him to bring up that topic. At least I would have done the
same if I was in Dean shoes.

Personally, and I think with me many others, I would be really
disappointed if Dean wouldn't be speaking.

I think that we should be able (via Morgan) to find out what his topic
will be for this years speech.

I am not anticipating him coming, and not planning on pushing it.

And after the last FesT, not sure we want him.   That was because DRAFT is taking the Segway someplace he is not wanting it to go, which is the disabled community, because of J&J issues.

Hello,
This is my first email into the group.  I have been receiving your emails since this summer but have never replied until now.
I was reading all the info that is being sent and what we might want for the Segwayfest2008 and I was about to ask for something for the disabled Segway rider, because that is what I am.  Then I read the next email talking about "Dean".  I am assuming that he must have spoken about disabled rights to some extent so I may be stepping on some toes.  But....I would be very interested in hearing someone speak on the advocacy of using Segway's for the disabled.  I have a lung disease and can't walk and breathe very well.
I have had my Segway for almost 5 years.  It enabled me to teach school for an extra 3 years and now that I am retired it still helps me get out and go do what I want.
Please let me know if that info could possibly be included.

thanks, Lisa

Lisa!

I’m so glad you’ve chimed in. I’ve been wondering how winter has treated you down in Seymour. When Dean spoke at a DRAFT event at the last FesT it sparked some controversy because he articulated that he does not think highly of Segway PTs being used as a mobility tool. I think you and I have talked about that before. There are many many people out there using their machines as you do. DRAFT, which exists to advocate disability rights through Segway technology, will be at FesT so there will definitely be ample opportunity for you to connect and converse.

We will definitely work on ways to have disability use addressed during FesT. Keep the ideas coming! If you are going to be in town that weekend in August I would love your help!
