Dear all,

In one of the projects I'm designing Steel structures we have to give connection between Steel Structures and Precast concrete slab, can anyone please tell me how it can be achieved???

Your immediate reply would be highly appreciated.

Thanks & Regards,
Sarfaraz

Dear Sarfaraz,
Bolted Connection is a possible option,Since your precast slab panels need to be connected to steel members, kindly search for details about it.Otherwise welding is an option,in both cases the weld plate or the bolts have to be designed for tension and should have sufficient strength.
You can seek expert coments from ARC or Subramaniam Sir or Vikramjeet in this regard.I have noted their comments on any topic to be most informative and appropriate.

Regards,

Anuj.

Dear Sarfaraz,

We had designed an industrial building in which cast-in-situ concrete deck was supported by a steel portal frame. In this, we had used steel shear connectors to facilitate horizontal shear transfer from concrete deck to steel portal.

In that building, as the slab was cast-in-situ, accuracy in positioning of the shear connectors was not that critical. In your case, as the slab is precast one, you will have to precisely define position of shear connectors on steel structure and recesses for those shear connectors in the precast concrete slab, which could be grouted after positioning of the slab.

You can get further details about the industrial structure designed by us from the link,

Thank you Mr. Lakhani,

Yes in case of cast in situ concrete we are using same method of providing metal decking with stud anchors (shear connectors). But I had doubt regarding the precast conc. slab, can we apply the method you suggested for hollow block conc slab as well?

Thanks & Regards,
Sarfaraz

Dear Sarfaraz,

Yes, why not? If concrete section of the hollow block at interface of shear connector and the block is strong enough to transmit lateral shear to the shear connector, the same method can definitely be adopted.
