hi friends

As in brief i m newbie.
And wanted to know how to interprete the result in staad when plate has been modelled.
well my structure is made up of shell plates like a vertical and circular reformer/stack type. i have applied wind loads earthquakes n others like dead loads including refractories.. there after i did analysis.now the problem is that-- this is my first plate analysis and i dont know to interprete the results... how should i ckeck that my plate elements are ok.. i think i have to check it in tension, compress ino as well as in bending.. combined .. also if there is any membrane stress..allowable tension and compression stess will govern the design as i think..
could any one help me & throw light on my problem . i will be obliged.. any refrence material if there is ..u can send it to my mail.

with regards,
abhi

Dear
First go to staad help file read what are stress and its direction.

stresses you got in staad is KN/sq.mt/m i.e. you have to multiply it by thickness 't' of that plate element and then simply used that stresses.

If you want to calculate moment from that stresses then simply use

M/I=Stresses/y.

M - moment
I - moment of inertia
y- depth of N.A.

need more reply

Regards & wishes
