Dear All ,
Conflicting reports are being received from Japan Meteorological Agency & United States Geological Survey with respect to seismic technical information pertinent to the earthquake that rattled Tokyo city at 3.13pm Japan Standard Time on Wednesday, August 20, 2008.
According to the Japanese experts the magnitude is Mb 4.5 but USGS says it is Mb 4.7 having focal depth of 10 km. Not only this, JMA scientists say its epicentre is 50km (31 miles) northeast of the capital but USGS asserts it is located at 37.048°N, 139.792°E about 155 km (95 miles) N of Tokyo, so a difference indeed.
So far no damage has been reported.

Dear All ,
A moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 4.5 has rattled Tokyo city, causing buildings to shake in the heart of the metropolis, officials say.
The epicentre of the earthquake was 50km underground in Ibaraki prefecture northeast of the capital, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
Ibaraki police said they had no immediate reports of damage from the earthquake, which struck at 3.13pm (1613 AEST). No tsunami warning was issued.
Japan is hit by 20 per cent of the world's powerful earthquakes.
