Boa tarde,

O acordo entre ABEC, IBICT CrossRef está se concretizando.

Encaminho abaixo mensagem da CrossRef com informações importantes. Vamos aguardar os detalhes por parte da ABEC.

-------
Dear CrossRef member

We are contacting you because you are a Brazilian institution who is a CrossRef member and we have exciting news for you. CrossRef, ABEC and IBICT are pleased to announce an agreement that will make it easier for your institution to be a member of CrossRef and take advantage of all our services.

Under this new agreement ABEC is a CrossRef “Sponsoring Entity” while IBICT provides technical support. Existing not-for-profit Brazilian institutions who are already CrossRef members can appoint ABEC as their agent and their membership will be managed by ABEC on behalf of CrossRef. Thus, ABEC becomes responsible for the annual membership fee on behalf of all the Brazilian institutions that recognizes ABEC as their agent (as long as these institutions are qualified as not-for-profit, non-commercial publishers). The institution will not have to pay a separate annual membership fee (thus saving $275).

Institutions appointing ABEC as their agent will remain CrossRef members and have all the same rights and duties and there are no operational changes. The institutions will keep depositing DOIs using the same prefix as before. However, invoicing and payment will be made much easier. CrossRef will invoice ABEC for deposits and, after its payment, ABEC will charge each institution and will offer easier ways of payment in Brazil, such as: bank-issued invoice, bank deposit, allotment advice or credit card. No foreign payments will be needed.

Existing institutions in Brazil who are already CrossRef members can request from ABEC (email: conv...@abecbrasil.org.br) the “Represented Member Agreement” (this is the same as the current Membership Agreement but allows you to appoint ABEC as your agent). After completing the agreement and providing the relevant data two signed copies should be returned to ABEC who will notify CrossRef.

Institutions who aren’t currently CrossRef members can request to join CrossRef and be represented by ABEC. The request will be reviewed by ABEC and if approved will be forwarded to CrossRef for review and approval. In case of acceptance, the DOI prefix will be provided as well as the account to access the CrossRef services.

The normal CrossRef deposit fees will still apply to ABEC-represented members. ABEC will charge an administrative fee for any defaulting ABEC-represented members and for non-ABEC members - ABEC will provide information about these fees.

To take advantage of this new agreement then send an email to ABEC’s business contact: conv...@abecbrasil.org.br

After you are signed up as an ABEC-represented member information will be sent on how to contact IBICT for technical support.

Yours sincerely

Ed Pentz
