salam all, speaking to sibtain lakha last night, apparently the issue was the jamaat did nt want to bury this chap at rowan road cemetry (which is what his family wanted) but were willing to bury him in another cemetry...?!?!?

furthermore, sibtain mentioned that the brother is sunni...which makes me wonder why they would want to bury him in a shia part of a cemetry

if anyone has any more information on this somewhat seeming tragic matter, then please do shed some light

http://www.hyderi.org.uk/

the home page statement

'After lengthy consultation with the elders of the community, our umbrella organisations and the wider community, the managing trustees have come to the very difficult conclusion that we did not have the mandate from the wider membership to override established policy and provide a plot at Rowan Road cemetery.

In light of this recent tragic event, the Hyderi Managing Committee is determined to raise issues pertaining to burial eligibility at the next general meeting to enable the community to engage in a discussion on this very emotive topic. We would like to thank the community at large for their support at this time, and request that all kindly remember the Marhum in their prayers during this Holy Month'

-there is no mention of brother being sunni

-no mention of burial in another cemetry

-mention that a discussion needs to happen at next AGM - (small step fwd)

any more information on this would be fantastic

Read somewhere that the plot was donated by a 3rd party that had stipulated conditions re burial. Thus the Jamaat were unable to accommodate. Whether this is accurate though is a different question. Best to contact Hyderi direct.

If we're talking about hearsay, then yesterday I was talking to someone who said that they had offered to bury the guy in a cemetery that was 5-10 mins away but they refused and wanted that one specifically because it was a very short walk away from their house. He also mentioned what Qazim said about the 3rd party but said he wasn't sure about that. It's all a little grey at the moment to be honest.
With kind regards,
Salim Kassam

In any case, let's all recite one sura fateha for the departed soul...

Was there not something to do with the marhum not being khoja? As in the constitution stipulated the burial plot at Rowan Road was to be used for khojas only and the EC "lacked the mandate to overturn this".

Would appreciate the clarification if possible.
