In fact, Ben Smith at Politico calls it, "the real swiftboating" and says, "Harold Simmons's 'American Issues Project" does seem to be the real deal -- an independent group, financed by a major McCain supporter, pushing ads far nastier than anything McCain could afford to do." It's actually run by a consultant who was paid by the McCain campaign, and yesterday John McCain's campaign sank to a level not even George W. Bush sank to. They actually repeated the swiftboating lies themselves.
We can't let this stand. While our convention shows America a unified, energized party ready to get America working again, we need to make sure we don't let these smears go unanswered. We need to let everyone know what kind of game John McCain is playing here.

The ad is filled with lies as it desperately tries to distract people from McCain's horrible policies, and it attempts to tie Barack Obama to a man he has almost no connection with, someone who lives in the same neighborhood named William Ayers.
Here's the facts: Ayers was in a radical group back in the 60s when Barack Obama was 8 or 9. Barack Obama has already denounced the long-past activities of this guy, and John McCain and his paid henchmen know it. And the central contention of the ad has been discredited for months, called "phony" by Barack Obama's hometown paper.
But instead of dealing with the real issues, John McCain and his cronies would rather dig up obscure 60s radicals and run ads about Britney and Paris. The ad is a lie from start to finish, and we can't let it stand.
People are tired of this kind of politics. We need solutions, but all the McCain campaign and the Republicans are giving us are the same old destructive politics.
