Dear Singers,
It seems like a lifetime ago since we last sang together at Qwest Field for His Holiness, the Dalai Lama. What a day that was. (Then some of us sang on Monday at UW too - and Jeremy got to tell His Holiness his joke!). I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to work/play/sing and dance with you all. The whole process of coming together weekly and then singing for the world was so amazing. I thank you for being there, adding your voice, beauty, and heart in the creation of something truly unique and powerful. My words do little justice to the experience of it all - but I think you know well what I mean.
I don't know about you but after the SOC event was over I was a little tired. And then - as many of you know - my husband suffered cardiac arrest in May. I am pleased to say that he is recovering very nicely. I managed to take most of the summer off and I now feel completely renewed. This has been an absolutely grace filled time for us. I seem to find a sweet, gentle surprise behind everything I've ever feared and the near death of my husband was no exception. As I waited the hours it took for them to fix his heart I remember asking for just one more day with him so I could talk to him before he left. It had been so shocking and sudden - and the brilliant medics had revived him three times before he even left our house - so it didn't look promising. Just one more day....I would unwrap it like a present. And here I am now unwrapping another day with him and the children in my life and the you folks - so many friends and teachers and inspirers that fill my life with all your beauty and love.
I don't know what will come next but if it involves getting folks together to sing I'll let you know. It would be interesting to see what form it would take.
And lastly - I'm sending you an invitation to the Auction for El Centro de la Raza. They were so welcoming of us in hosting a rehearsal space and supporting the choir. I hope to see some of you there - it's in two weeks so let them know quickly if you decide to go.
Blessings to you all. Wow, we really did something - didn't we?
Love,
Mary K.
