Hi Runners,
Our weebly subscription renews in 2 weeks. It costs $10 per month to keep our website up and running on their servers. I wonder if it is worth it? We have a Facebook page that we could use instead and that does not cost anything. Of course, not everyone has a Facebook account... What do your guys think? Should I let the subscription renew for another 2 years at $240 or is it time to let the website go and move to another platform? Very interested to hear your thoughts.

Hi Irwin,
The FB group page works well for the Tuesday trail runners.

I think we can make Facebook work, also.

Just out of curiosity: I assume the $10/month includes domain registration and SSL certificate?!?  I have some room on a Plesk Windows IIS server I use for development, but we'd still need to cover the registration and SSL fees.  Probably less than $10/month, though.

Let me know if you have want to discuss,
John

The web site is mostly static and mostly accessed for the calendar. I agree with Ray that the Trail Runners Facebook page appears to work really well, not only keeping everyone informed but also allowing everyone to post (eg Eddie could post yesterday's group pic). Additionally it attracts new members and out of towners to the runs. There could be an argument that it would also encourage us to follow their pattern of diversifying the runs on a weekly basis with up to date postings. They do it with members taking turns to select the weekly trails for a month at a time.
Overall I think the Facebook route is probably more dynamic, more current and more open to new blood.

Sounds like Facebook is the way to go.

Looks like we have consensus regarding Facebook so I have redirected www.sedonaroadrunners.com to point to www.facebook.com/sedonaroadrunners
I suggest that we continue to use the sedonaroadrunners google calendar as our primary goto for where we run as Facebook events are rather unwieldy.
The page can support multiple administrators and only administrators can post to the page so I am looking for people who are interested in serving in this capacity.
In addition, to our Facebook page we also have a Facebook group where anybody can post.
So as not to lose them, I transferred all of our photos over the Facebook page as well.
Please let me know what you think.
