Atthe same time, another bug is that when the triplanar feature is active, the texture mapping (UV) on the vertical axis does not match each other in line. In D5 Render 2.3.4, I did not have this problem with the old sketchup converter (test.0.6.7). When I activated the Triplanar feature, all texture mapping and rotations on the vertical axis complemented each other. But I no longer see this correct UV mapping in the new version.

The following errors happen when I try to update the plugins from OpenStudio 1.4.0 to OpenStudio 1.8.0, OpenStudio 1.8.4, or OpenStudio 1.9.0. I tried both 32 and 64 bit version of OpenStudio. Any ideas?

This is a Ruby version issue I believe. OpenStudio 1.4 was the last version to support Ruby 1.8 and SketchUp 7, 8, and 2013. All subsequent versions of OS use Ruby 2.0 and support SketchUp 2014 and newer. Reference the OpenStudio Version Compatibility Matrix.

If you are stuck at SketchUp 8 for some reason, you could still start your OSM there, and then open it in a newer version of OpenStudio App, but it would make round trips back to the plugin to update geometry much more complex.

Important note - OpenStudio Application v1.1.0 is based on OpenStudio 3.1.0 which is built using Ruby 2.5.5. SketchUp 2021 upgraded to Ruby 2.7.1 which is incompatible with Ruby 2.5.5. There is an enhancement request to upgrade OpenStudio's Ruby version to 2.7.1 for a future release.

1 ) Install OpenStudio Application v1.1.0 or higher

2 ) Install SketchUp 2019 or 2020 desktop client if not already installed.

3 ) Download openstudio-sketchup-plugin.rbz plugin

4 ) Launch SketchUp desktop client. Navigate to: Window -> Extension Manager -> Install Extension -> Browse to openstudio.rbz

6 ) SketchUp should now load the extension.

Originally released as free open-source software, the popular 3D-modeling program SketchUp now comes with a premium price tag. Or does it? You can still download a free desktop version if you know where to look.

This worked when we published it in 2021. However, as of May 2022, the official SketchUp website is no longer offering the free version (SketchUp Make 2017) for download. Trimble even warns it might have security problems as it hasn't been updated since 2017.

SketchUp has changed hands a few times over the years, once having been owned by Google, and currently owned by a company called Trimble. At the time of this writing, the only modern free version of SketchUp is a web app. If you want the latest full desktop app, you're looking at $300 a year for personal use.

The SketchUp web app is decent and might be good enough for many people, but for a long time, the desktop version was completely free, too. When Trimble acquired SketchUp, it forked the product into several tiers, keeping the free desktop version around as "SketchUp Make."

The last version of SketchUp Make was released in 2017. The good news is that Trimble still offers this version in an official capacity, although it's no longer receiving updates. If you want a free desktop version of SketchUp, it's still a great option. Here's where to find it.

Next, you will need to sign in to a Trimble account or create one for free. This step is required in order to get the download links. You can easily sign in with a Google or Apple account if you'd like.

Once you're signed in, you'll be brought to the Downloads page. It's organized by language, and each version has a Windows 64 Bit and Mac OSX download. Find "SketchUp Make 2017" and click "Download" for your platform.

That's it! SketchUp Make isn't as full-featured as the newer "Pro" versions, but for the vast majority of people, it's perfect. If you used SketchUp in the past, this is most likely the version you'll be familiar with.

When you download this program, it will start as a time-limited 30-day trial of SketchUp Make 2017 Pro. After the trial expires, it will automatically convert itself into a free version of SketchUp Make 2017.

Sweet! That is just awesome and makes me happy to hear!

And of course you will be able to purchase it, but I have not thought of a price yet. Until then I will release betas so you can continue to use it.

@Pascal I would like to remove the link to the old files in the thread so only the latest download version is available. (Or preferably I would like to keep on editing the initial post and have the link only there) but the edit options on the older posts are gone. Are there anything I can do to fix that? It would be annoying for people to download the link from the first post only to discover that it is expired)

what i men to say was: You terrainMesh plugin is gone a be a winner. But i think it will be a more complete plugin if you can add the options to stamp roads, curved roads, buildings, etc over terrain. I made a quick example in sketchup as this software have the ability to build the difference between terrain and all the objects that will be above it.

Here is an youtube video to show what i meant to say. (sketchup plugin name Instant Road)
