We're testing out SO, and I'm building it into our environment. It has a static IP address assigned, and it is installed on VMware.

In the VMware console, I load it up, and get the screen that is attached. I cannot type in it, and cannot get past the screen.

I've even reset the VM. It's not grabbing its IP address, so I can't access anything.

Ideas on what is happening, and how to fix?

Randy,

Have you tried pressing the escape key while it loads to see where /why it hangs?

Thanks,
Wes

I had not. Pressing escape, I unlocked the disk, it went through it's start up. Two items showed a failure, but whipped past them pretty fast. Then I got a login prompt. Entered my credentials, and I'm at the desktop...

Have ping and everything...

Hi Randy,

When you say you "unlocked the disk", are you saying that you enabled
disk encryption in the Ubuntu installer?

I did not, but it asked me to enter my password to unlock the disk, which I found odd.

I'm pretty new to SecOnion, so I'm still trying to figure the entire thing out.

That sure sounds like disk encryption. Please try re-installing and
make sure you're following one of our Installation guides (they
mention to avoid any encryption options):

I reinstalled, and it appears that things are working now. Odd, I'm certain that we didn't enable encryption. Thanks for the advice!
