Install Security Onion into Real Ubuntu OS not on VMware workstation.

Dear Sir.

I wish to see you well.

I just interested into install Security Onion ISO into real Ubuntu 18 Operating system but it unable. I download the last image of Security Onion.

Usually I install it on VMware workstation and it works fine but I tried to install it into real Operating system but it unable to run.

I followed instruction as mentioned into installation website:

After these instruction, I mounted ISO image into operating system but there is no iconic to run setup.

I run sudo sosetup from terminal but it shows an error with an command not found.

Please, anyone could help me to install it into real OS not into Vmware workstation.

Hi Fadi,

When installing from the ISO, you will need to boot from the ISO.  From there, there should be an icon to install Security Onion, which will take you through the normal prompts for configuring Ubuntu/Security Onion.  From there, it will prompt to restart.  You can simply restart, then remove the media, then you should able to boot to the new installation.  From there, you can log in and run sosetup.

Alternatively, you could also install Ubuntu 16.04, then install the SO packages on top of it.
