Hello, I'm trying to install securityonion-12.04.1-20130605.iso on a Dell PowerEdge SC1425, with 2 x 1T disks striped.

After I boot the DVD, and get to the graphical desktop, I try to perform the Install Security-Onion.

When I get to the disk/partition screen, it throws an error about not being able to find a "root" slice.  I guess this makes sense, since nothing has been formatted yet.  Shouldn't it try to format the disk prior to using it?
I couldn't find anywhere to do this myself.

Here's the error/screen:

I've tried selecting [OK], and trying to use the "New Partition Table", but all those options are not clickable.

Any help would be great.

Thanks!

Hi

It a Ubuntu installation problem. Try giving the error message a Google spin.

So, I need to manually build the partitions prior to installation?
I could do that I suppose.
I don't know if the mirror is going to work.  When I check, I see both /dev/sda  and /dev/sdb.
I manually created some EXT4 partitions and it seems to be happy.
   /boot    1G
   swap     2G
   /      everythingElse (about 1T still ).

Thanks for the help!

I actually saw the google ubuntu posts, but thought it was unusual that the exising Security Onion iso would have this issue.

Cheers!

Normally you should have to create the partitions manually, it should be an advanced option.
Normally it should auto create the file systems needed.

Looking around it seems the raid controller may not be supported under linux.

That might be the problem. That was actually my first thought... But since you could see sda, I didn't think that would be the issue.
