Not sure if this is a Security Onion (SO) or VMware issue.

I orginally had 8GB of RAM dedicated to my SO VM on my ESXi server but it seemed like every time I checked VMware said it was utilizing all 8GB so I upped it to 16GB (ESXi server has 64GB of RAM). I then checked and it said it was using 9GB. I checked periodically throughout the day yesterday and it slowly went up from there. I've attached a screenshot of the VM showing it is using 15.45GB of RAM.

I've also attached the output of sostat and top. Top also seems to show ~15GB of memory usage split between used and buff/cache.

Any ideas? Has anyone else experienced this?

TIA,
Brad

Hi Brad,

This appears to be normal and is likely due to caching.

See the following for more details:

Thanks,
Wes
