Hello all,

I was just wondering if you could help me, I have just installed security onion on my vmware pro 12, at first phase of configuration I had Internet connection but when I implement the second phase of the configuration I lost my Internet connection inside the VMware? I changed my network from NAT to the bridege and tried all the option but still security onion cant connect to the Internet?
This is the link which I used as a guidance for configuration:
https://github.com/Security-Onion-Solutions/security-onion/wiki/VMWare-Walkthrough

I would greatly appreciate if someone can help me to resolve this issue as I need to do a school project and Im using security onion as my project to monitor my network traffics.

Cheers,
Steve

Dear Steve,

Before installing the security onion iso in the vmware add one more network card and put both the network card in bridge mode. After installation of the iso just click the setup. The first phase is configuring the management and sniffing interface. Make sure you have a dhcp in the network so that both your network cards receive auto ip address in the network.

Hope this may help and resolve the issue.

Steve,

As Anumod has mentioned, you'll want to make sure you have 2 network adapters assigned (1 mgmt and 1 sniffing). It sounds like maybe you tried to assign the same interface for mgmt and sniffing.

Be careful with configuring the management adapter to Bridged mode, as the VM will obtain an IP address and remain and act as if on the same network segment as your host machine. If you do this, you will want to make sure there is strict enforcement of firewall rules, etc.

Thanks,
Wes
