Hi all,

first thank a lot for your great work!
Is there any chance for Debian packages? Since the libc6 Version between Debian and Ubuntu does not match, one cannot simply install from the Ubuntu-PPA.
Since i cannot leave Debian for various reasons, it would be really great!

Thanks a lot! Kind regards Tobias

Hi Tobias,

Unfortunately, we don't have the resources to support another distro right now.

Thanks,
Doug

But isn't ubuntu built on debian?? wouldn't that make it just dependencies that are needed to be added to the build to make it work?

"Ubuntu uses the same packaging management system (deb and apt) and with each development cycle pulls in the latest packages from Debian and then adapts them to Ubuntu specifics and adds more features and patches where necessary. They also push changes back to Debian and often developers are Ubuntu and Debian developers."

you already are on debian, just not with the specific packages. Pretty sure the additional work would merely checking dependancies vs the default debian build and just add an apt-get install (whatever depends are missing) to the install directions.

Hardly seems like it would be all that much work.... Also, this link goes to Ubuntu's "Debian for ubuntu developers." https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Debian/ForUbuntuDevelopers

It may be worth your time to build into the debian repo as you could end up with super excited folks considering debian is one of the more secure types of linux, it's somethign that would be up their ally.

^^my source for such claim.

when you decide to go for it, let us know here. I won't near ubuntu, debian all the way

Hi William,

Thanks for the feedback. I'm intimately familiar with the fact that
Ubuntu is based on Debian. I agree, in theory, that the changes
should be relatively minor. However, those minor changes can quickly
add up to many hours in terms of maintenance and support and we simply
don't have any extra hours right now. If you would like to maintain
and support debian compatibility, pull requests are always welcome!
:)
