Softwareupdates are a vital part of keeping your PC running its best. It's important to periodically check for updates since they are released at different intervals. To make things easier, your Samsung PC allows you to quickly check and apply updates. You can even customize the update options, so they'll only happen at times that are convenient for you.
The Samsung Update app allows you to download and install recommended apps and drivers for your Samsung PC. It is usually preinstalled on Samsung PCs, but you can download it from the Microsoft Store if you don't see it.
In most cases, your model will automatically be detected and the list of apps and drivers will indicate what is or is not up to date. Otherwise, enter your PC's model number in the Search bar, and then choose the appropriate software version, such as Windows 11 or Windows 10 v20H2.
Pause updates: Prevent any updates from automatically installing. On Windows 11, you'll have several time frames to choose from. On Windows 10, the default time frame is 7 days, and you can change the amount by going to Advanced options.
Updating the drivers for your Samsung PC can be done through either Samsung Update or Windows Update. However, getting drivers for any external devices you connect to your PC is also important. Windows Update may offer these drivers as well, but may mark them as optional.
If the external device or component you are connecting happens to also be made by Samsung, such as a monitor, you may find drivers for it from our Download Center. If drivers are not available from the Download Center, then available drivers from Samsung Update and Windows Update can be used, or the drivers built-in to Windows may be sufficient.
Devices or components made by manufacturers other than Samsung may offer drivers directly from their site. See Microsoft's help article for how to install and update drivers for additional information.
It is also possible to install desktop apps that are not found in the Microsoft Store. These apps are maintained by their developers. If you'd like to install or update these apps, you can contact their developer for more information.

Samsung Update allows you to download updates and drivers for your Samsung software. Select Start, and then scroll to and select Samsung Update. Select your desired drivers or installation files, and then click Download. The updates will automatically install.
Updating device drivers can be done through either Samsung Update or Windows Update. Windows Update may mark these updates as optional. These drivers are needed to run system apps and connect devices.
Depending on what device you are connecting, you can get drivers for Samsung devices from our Support Centre. If drivers are not available for the device, then the drivers available from Samsung Update and Windows Update are sufficient. Devices or components made by manufacturers other than Samsung may offer drivers directly from their site. See Microsoft's help article for how to install and update drivers.
In the top right, if some apps are already available for update, you may see a download icon and the number of apps awaiting download. Otherwise, click the three dots and then Downloads and updates. Once here, you can use the Get updates button to check all your apps for updates, and the Update all button to download all updates that are already detected as available. Or you can pick and choose which ones to download. Finally, you can click the three dots again and select Settings to enable the setting to Update apps automatically (which should be on by default).
If the Microsoft store app itself is one of the apps being updated, the store will close as the update is performed. Reopen the Microsoft store app and check again for updates if this happens. It is also good to check for app updates after updating to a new version of Windows 10 from Windows update.
It is also possible to install desktop apps that are not found in the Microsoft store. These apps are completely maintained by their developers and you should use any update tools the app offers or check with the app developer's website to find information on when and how to update it.
Since new in 2012, the laptop has occasionally powered off without warning, no blue screen or error message. Can go for a month or 2 without happening, or 2 or 3 times on a very bad day. No pattern to it. No solution ever from Samsung tech support. Not repeatable enough to justify return for hardware fault investigation. Did regular backups and lived with it.
Bored one day, I downloaded the crash log analyser tool from the Windows 7 SDK and learnt how to use it. All of the crashes turned out to be wi-fi driver power state errors, and always the same. No new drivers available. Out of support with Samsung. No solution. Tempted by the free Windows 10 upgrade I bit the bullet against Samsung's advice. The problem became much less frequent with new Windows 10 wireless drivers from Microsoft, maybe once in 3 months at most. So I bit the bullet again and decided not to buy a new laptop just yet, but to get a Samsung Evo 850 SSD and while fitting it, to replace the wireless module with a dual band version to get 5GHz band and Bluetooth 4. Found a brand new one very cheap on Ebay. Laptop now boots (and does all the interminable daily software package update version update checks), in 90 seconds, where it used to take 17 minutes. Result. An unexpected bonus result was that the new card automatically installed the different wireless drivers needed, on first boot, and it has never powered suddenly off since. The wireless works fine and faster on 5GHz, and I no longer need the Bluetooth 4 dongle that came with a Fitbit, so freeing up a spare USB port.
With hindsight, I should have done more research on the best wireless card to buy. I had only checked for compatibility and the number of antenna terminals, rather than best performance. I could have bought a wireless-ac version for a little more and achieved even better wi-fi speeds, as my router is ac standard. Not sure the laptop antennae would support ac though. The SSD is the best 130 I have ever spent and gives better overall performance than I'd have got from buying many a new laptop at over 1000.
What about the Window 10 upgrade. Seemed to complete succesfully with no errors detected, but Edge browser would not open. Re-installed it using Powershell, another learning exercise, but no luck. Did a clean install and that fixed the issue. The only minor niggle is that the touchpad double-tap to left-click function occasionally fails to work first time, so I swapped a wi-fi driver problem for a much less serious Elan touchpad driver issue. MS issued a new touchpad driver a few months after I reported it, and it's better but not perfect. The physical left-click button always works first time so just need to change my habit of double tapping.
It is recommended you update your Samsung Drivers regularly in order to avoid conflicts. Driver updates will resolve any Driver conflict issues with all devices and improve the performance of your PC.
To fix your Drivers problems you will need to know the particular model of the Samsung device you are having problems with. Once you have the details you can search the Samsung website for your drivers and, if available, download and install these drivers.
If you are unsure of whether or not you need to update your Drivers, or indeed which Drivers may need to be updated, you can run a Drivers scan using a driver update tool (you will need to pay to register this tool but usually the Drivers scan is free). This will allow you to assess your Driver needs without any commitment. Alternatively, you can use the device manager to check if there are problems with any of your hardware devices.
In many cases the answer to this is yes, however in some cases the manufacturers no longer make the Drivers available so you need to use a Driver Update Tool to install the missing Drivers. The purpose of such as tool is to save you time and effort by automatically downloading and updating the Drivers for you.
I have a Samsung Ativ Book 6 NP680Z5E-X02US and recently updated to Windows 10. It uses Intel HD 4000 Graphics and has and AMD Radeon 8770M graphics card. Since updating I am no longer able to adjust screen brightness.
I have tried uninstalling the monitor and restarting. Updating all the graphics drivers. Disabling/Enabling the generic PnP monitor in device manager. Changed all of the power settings. The monitor still stays at what seems to be 100% brightness.
I recently updated W10 to anniversary edition and ran into this issue yet again. I have no idea how I was able to resolve it last time. I attempted to uninstall, and reinstall all drivers from Samsung over again, in various orders, running the Win10 Brightness Control Patch each time provided by Samsung Update, but in each case, never yielded results. I should also note that I've also disabled adaptive brightness in display options and also my power options plan. This was required the first time I got this working so I made sure those settings were changed back after the update reverted them.
There are other "control sets" other than the CurrentControlSet. I wound up changing them all to f008 prior to a reboot. Though I suspect the CurrentControlSet is all you will need.
