FYI if you're looking for an opportunity at UW working in their machine shop.  State jobs have lower pay boundaries but generally pay substantially more based on experience/etc.  I don't know anything else about the positions besides what's listed here:

Now Hiring – Instrument Maker & CNC Programmer

 


The College of Engineering Instrument Shop team is looking to fill one position for an Instrument Maker or a CNC Programmer/Operator. These are both full-time University Staff, hourly, benefits eligible positions. The starting salary will be based upon the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience but will be no less than $23/hour for the CNC Programmer/Operator and $28.85/hour for the Instrument Maker. Learn more about our team and lab at our website: https://teamlab.engr.wisc.edu/


Position Summary: 

Instrument Maker: Enable cutting edge research and collaborate with the brightest minds in the College of Engineering. As an Instrument Maker in TEAM Lab, you'll be critical to our teaching and research mission as you work with students, staff, and faculty to create complex parts used for novel purposes. Use your 10+ years' experience as a journeyman Tool and Die Maker or Machinist and experience with Mastercam and SolidWorks to take projects from concept to completion in a dynamic and energetic environment.


CNC Programmer/Operator: Use your 5+ years' CNC machining expertise to enable cutting edge research and collaborate with the brightest minds in the College of Engineering. As a Machinist in the Instrument Shop, you'll be critical to our teaching and research mission as you fabricate complex parts used for novel purposes. You'll use your SolidWorks and Mastercam experience to take customer parts from 3D model to completion.
